AT&T is pretty much a demonic abyss, so I guess that leaves Verizon, which I think is the best bet.
I agree that AT&T is not so great to work with, however you can get the same network from Consumer Cellular, who are AT&T resellers, and they are great - with just one glitch - unlike so many carriers where you can talk with other people on the same account unlimited minutes, if I call DW on her cell, we are using 2 minutes of air time for every minute we talk. But the phones are cheap to buy, air time is reasonable, no contracts. Very good customer service. Decent coverage from Tri-Cities to at least Ellensburg, and most of the way from here to Spokane (there is a "hole" in coverage close to where 395 meets I-90)
