Default moving to Richland

Hi everybody,

I was so happy to finally find some information on Richland. We are moving there at the beginning of September. We need to go there next week to find and buy a house, and I am in such panic because we don't know anything about the town, neighborhoods, schools, and we are afraid to make a costly mistake with our choice.

So far we were thinking about buying in South Richland. Are we moving in the right direction? rundugrun, icefox, did you actually relocate to tri-cities? How was your experience? Any information and advice from people who live in Richland and the area would be priceless and greatly appreciated.
Please, help us!

Thank you so much!

Default South Richland

If you are refering to the Meadow Springs area that is a pretty good area.

I am a born and raised tri city kinda guy who graduated from Kamiakin in 75. then left town for greener pastures.

I have attended Spaulding and Jason Lee in Richland plus several in Kennewick seems like most were pretty good schools. As one posted here Kamiakin is close to the mall and we would end up there quite a bit.

Mosquito fogging is quite a experience and luckly they used to do it at night.

Default Social Scene In Tri-City Area?

I may be moving to the tri-city area for job reasons. It will be the first time I've lived in an area with as little population as the tri-cities. Forgive me if I ask this awkwardly, as I am unsure how to phrase the question. Do any of the readers have experience meeting other singles, age range 30-50 (i.e., past the typical marrying age) in the tri-city area? I worry that in a relatively small place, basically everyone is married w/kids (that is a fine thing to do, don't misunderstand: it is just that I'm not). I apologize it that sounds like a large-metro-guy’s uneducated idea of the area: please fill me in!

Default Tri-Cities

I came across your posting when I was looking up something and thought I would see how old this was. Are you still interested in info? I live here and have all of my life. I have 2 children- 1 in middle school (girl) and 1 in elementary (boy). We have a ton of building going on and things have changed so much over the last 10 years it is crazy!!! I grew up in Kennewick but live in Pasco now ( I never thought I would say that when I as younger). There are good sides and bad sides in all three cities but Pasco especially. Kennewick has had the most growth over the last 10 years but now Pasco is starting to pick up a little. If you are moving here because of a job transfer I am guessing Handford- and that is in Richland. Let me know if you want some specific info-- I'll help!! I get freaked out just trying to find a hotel in a good side of town when we travel, I can't imagine trying to move and not know anything!! If this request for info is really old then just disregard this note. Or if you already live here and want to know "now what do I do?" ---LOL--- let me know ----Charmine

Default To Wunderin

Sorry!!! The single life "sucks" in the Tri-Cities according to all my single girlfriends. Some of the girls go to winerys for fun especially the ones by Bookwalter in Kennewick. Did you know that the Tri- Cities has the largest amount of Phd's per capita because of Handford- but my friends only say they meet idiots when they go out!!

I graduated from Kamiakin in Kennewick and yes it was the BEST school at that time- If fact people used to lie about their address to get into the school. Unfortunately that is not the case anymore- They are currently doing ongoing construction on the school now but in the past had not done anything to it because it used to be the "new school" It ended up pretty run down with way to many kids enrolled and tons of portables around it. Now the BEST highschool is Southridge- Although I am not to sure about the education provided there. In Richland there is Handford high and Richland high- RIchland high is the older, much larger school- They are remoldeling it now. Handford is "newer" but smaller. I know they compete at a lower level in sports too. Way back when I was in school- Handford high had all the "new wave" "punk" kind of kids. I don't know though maybe it was just that time era Pasco is where my children are supposed to go but I don't know-- I really don't want that even though they are building a new high school here. I think there is 3000 kids and the current high school--CRAZY!!- Jason Lee in Richland is getting a face lift currently and was a great school-- My mother-in-law ran a day care in that district so my kids started off there- The have a GREAT 3rd grade teacher there-- she has won so many awards that it is crazy!! Mrs. Moore is her name! If you go there and are in the 3rd grade do what ever you can to get her!!! Computers at every group station in the room etc... because she gets them as prizes from her awards from Bill Gates etc...

Hello everyone, me and my wife are thinking of relocating to the Tri-Cities area, and don't really know much about it. Right now we live in Southern California (Im originally from Oregon), but have a chance at a job up there that will pay almost the same. I have a few questions about the area if anyone would like to respond:

1. Is crime a big problem there? I read in another thread that there were parts of town to stay away from, and that there were gangs. Thats the kinda stuff I was trying to get away from down here in the metro area.

2. From the looks of it housing is affordable. If your looking for something sorda in the country, is Benton City ok? Or something on the river somewhere? Does the river ever rise threatening houses?

Thanks for who ever responds...

I live near the Tri-Cities now. Haven't been here long. First impression of Pasco: dirty and lots of low income areas (mexicans). The streets were dirty, the restraunts weren't clean etc. I'm not trying to be judgemental but that is just what I saw. I went to Kennewick and it was a little better but still not up to par with other Washington towns in other parts of the state. Remember, Kennewick, Pasco and Richland are pretty much the same town.

My fondest memories of the area: stray dogs and garbage.
