For imported food items, check out Euro Market in Kennewick, near the driver's license office - just off Clearwater on Huntington. Lot of Eastern European and some Middle Eastern fare. A lot of the Eastern European products are essentially organic - not officially so, but in fact pretty close.

Yes Trader Joe's does have good prices and never can go wrong with $3 Charles Shaw wine. Fred Meyer has by far the best oragnic section for grocery stores.

Yoke's Market is nice. It is not Whole Foods, but it does have some specialty items and a nice atmosphere. It can be a little pricey.

Yokes is as good as it will get around the Tri-Cities in terms of grocery shopping.

People in the area are far too tight with their money which is very amusing considering the housing costs are so low, and many salaries are very high. Disposable/discretionary income is extremly high relative to most other areas in the country. Yet you can't get people to spend much money. We have a hard time supporting high-end restaurants (there are probably 5 or fewer in the whole 200,000 metro area) and we would have an even harder time supporting high-end grocery shopping.

The area COULD support a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods, financially speaking. But from a cultural standpoint there couldn't be a worse place to try and open one of those stores.

Too bad because I love both...guess I'll keep shopping at Yoke's...at least we have a few of those...
