I'm relocating ASAP from NY state and need to find a home to rent ASAP. My son is terminal, and I have very little time.

I'm somewhat familiar with Richland, as I lived there for 2 years, I was in apts. off Gage Blvd. I loved that area, but need to expand my search to find a home I can afford.

Please advise what areas to avoid in Richland and Kennewick.

Need 2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, safe, low crime, quiet. Rent to: $1200 monthly. 1 cat

Thank you ...

I am very sorry to hear about your son. So you are looking to rent a home? At $1200 it is going to likely be quite modest. As for safe areas, you really can't go wrong in Richland or Kennewick. Though the general area from downtown Kennewick out to 10th Avenue (seems to) have more crime incidents. But both cities are generally safe. I wish you the best.

I am sorry for your son's condition. I see a couple of possibilities on Craigslist. The first is the Orchard Hills Apartments near Gage Blvd, which you mentioned. The other is this apartment nearby that is looking for someone to sublease:

Both units appear to take cats and are within your stated budget. My experience is with the Bellingham area, so I cannot speak to this particular neighborhood. Best wishes to both of you.

Certainly all of Richland is safe enough. You might check the apartments on Van Giesen, between Jadwin and George Washington Way. There are a variety of apartments, some nicer and costlier, some plainer and cheaper.

Are you going to be working? If you work at Hanford, or other way North Richland locations, might as well live in Richland. If you stay within a block or so of G-Way, you will find the bus service adequate and very cheap for getting to work.

Good luck.
