Default Richland Areas

Hi
My family will be moving to richland in the next few months and I am interested in any advice as to which are the desirable areas vs. which ones to avoid.
I have 4 children that will be attending 3 different schools ( grade school, middle school & Highschool)
Also wondering about the schools?
Is there some that are better than others.
We are moving from a area with a high migrant population, where many school resources were targeted toward helping them, which is not a problem, but I would like to avoid that. (No teaching in both english & Spanish Please)
anyway, I am looking for a strong academic school, good neighborhood and lots of family and childrens activities. I Richland the place?
I would appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks

Yes, Richland is an excellent choice for you. We do have a good size migrant population in the Tri-Cities, but most of them are located on the east side of Pasco and Kennewick. So, I can sympathize with your concern. South Richland tends to be the most desired place to live, but most all the schools are pretty good in general and I don't think it would be a big issue if you lived elsewhere.

Hopefully... You have not made a choice yet on where to bring your 4 children..
I can only respect the fact, your husband is making that decision??
Think about the enivonmental/ecological values facing your dilemna.
Do not move into Richland.
Move to the outer areas....above the Tri-City Center..above the 357 HWY(is it still called that). If you are from an area that 20-40 minute commutes is not an issue...why change that.?

The Tri-Cities is such named..that any are you reside is beneficial for the WORKER. Climate..and Acreage is the factor, here. Go where your children will be happiest..ask THEM. As far as education is concerned..look at the DOE website..for ratings for anll public schools prior to figuring out the "homestead" check out the school first...(private schools ususally require membership in denominational church)

No more city junk...go where there is fresh air.. Newer Communities are begging you..do not go to Richland. Go to East Kennewick..or Finley..
If you don't mind the 1 1/2 hrs from Walla Walla..better still.

Unless you want really rural I disagree with this poster. The air in the TC isn't bad anywhere that I have seen. And I have been there at all times of the year and going again tomorrow for a few days.

What advice I can offer is to stay on the west sides of Pasco and Kennewick to be in better areas. Richland has some nice areas all over. West Richland is growing and feels so far out as compared to the rest but Shopping ect... are catching up quickly.

Default Richland - Tri-Cities

My cousin and his wife moved to West Pasco l.5 yrs. ago and are trying to get us to leave the wet western Oregon climate and move back where they are. We were told in a visit last summer that Finley and east Kennewick were areas to avoid. There are gangs back there - but they are fairly contained in that area - as well as East Pasco. At least this is what the real estate agent told us when we spent 2 days driving around looking at properties. West Pasco is really booming and has almost all new everything. I have heard said that South Richland is a good area, as well, and more established. The only thing I've heard about air quality is that, because of the agriculture, there can be a flare up of allergies for those that suffer from this. High winds often blow the pollens around and can create a bit of discomfort, so it's a consideration for some. We will be out late Spring to look seriously at properties and also jobs. We are in our early 60's so I will probably maintain my self-employment and my husband will attempt to recreate the work he has done for 36 yrs. as a safety engineer for a commercial insurance company. Tri-Cities economy is strong and diversified, so the chances of finding work are better than in many places. Good Luck!

We moved to the Tri Cities from SoCal where the schools are overcrowded and bilinqual education is the norm. One of the draws for moving here was the excellent school districts. We have five children! We live in Pasco, and as reputation has it, Pasco is the least desired of the three cities in regards to school districts. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Richland and Kennewick school districts. If you want detailed information, you can go to: http://www.greatschools.net/
