Yoke's is expensive. They are like a mix of Whole Foods and Safeway, not worth the high prices in my opinion. The only thing worth going to Yoke's for is the produce on Fresh Friday's, good deals sometimes.

Ridiculous. This attitude is exactly why the Tri-Cities suffers from such a poor selection of restaurants, shopping, stores, etc. People only want the most generic, dirt-cheap things.
The prices at Yokes are higher, yes, but the quality of service and food is far better. Produce is fresher, you can find hard-to-get items for ethnic dishes, etc. that you can't find at Wal-Mart or Winco. I guess if you want to eat cheap fattening foods every day Yoke's probably doesn't matter to you, but they do have a decent health food and organic section.
I'm also a big supporter because of how much Yoke's does for the community. They will continue to get my $$$.

Yokes can be very competitive on some items. I have occasionally found certain items for less at Yokes than at Winco. They definitely have a better selection than the more mainstream stores, who stock only what sells in quantity (for example I can find Beaver Russian-style mustard at Yokes, apparently they stock the entire Beaver mustard line, while Safeway and Winco stock only the Chinese version (which is pretty similar, really). The meat and produce are first-rate, and you can always find lobster, lamb, etc. which the more mainstream stores don't stock.
Bottom line of course is for this level of service, variety, corporate citizenship, etc. you pay more, overall. If you buy your complete grocery list at Yokes for say $100, (depending on what exactly you buy) you could probably get *most* of the items for about say $80 at Safeway and say $65 at Winco. But if you want items you can only find at Yokes, well, you'll have to substitute for them.
Around here I think Winco has the lowest prices on staples, they do have a good if not great variety, meat and produce are good, you can stock up on non-perishables that they got a good deal on themselves (check the expiry date though, sometimes this is the reason) (that said, I have never had any problem with canned goods up to and a little over the marked expiry date - there is always some conservatism built in - use your own judgement on how far into the grey zone you want to go)
Safeway gets a lot of my business just because I can get a $50 cash advance on my Discover without going to an ATM or paying the fees normally involved, and there is one more conveniently located to my workplace than my bank is.
I hit Yokes occasionally for the off-beat items that only they have. Partly because their location is not as convenient.
I do the bulk of our shopping at Winco, saves $, sometimes pretty significant savings. But they don't take credit cards, and their locations in Tri-Cities are pretty inconvenient for me. They are employee-owned, and the staff acts like it.
Your mileage may vary.

I love Yokes. The meat and produce sections are nice.
I usually shop at Safeway or Fred Meyer though. They are both close to me. I've had really bad luck with the produce at Winco.
