Question Best non-chain restaurants in tri-cities?

My husband and I just moved from Portland, Oregon and are really missing all the non-chain resturant selections. Are there any good ones here? Is there any sushi in this area? Are there any nearby area's that have better restaurant selections? Just curious...it is taking me some time to get used to a smaller town!

I'm not much into Sushi but I do think you can find it here if you look.

Offhand, I like (Richland) (Mexican) 3 Margaritas, Isla Bonita, Casa Chapala, Inca(Greek) Apollo, Venezia, Brick House pizza in West, Cedars on Clover Island, Atomic Brewpub, Mandarin House on Lee, Bella Italia in Kennewick, Emerald of Siam in the Uptown.

Really quite a few good ones for a small town. It ain't Portland, but it ain't bad either.

I recently tried Bella Italia. A bit pricy (2 or 3 dollars more than the average Olive Garden entree) and the they don't mix foods like OG, but pretty good. All in all worth a try.

Think of Tri Cities as one big suburb, with no 'urb.' Best way to describe this odd place.

As for sushi, yep it can be found here.

In Kennewick there is a place called Sushi Mori, which is right by Costco. It is very good indeed!

In Richland, both Bento's (by WINCO right as you go into town) and Subs N Jean (located in the Parkway) have sushi. They both also have my recommendation!

There is a Japanese grocery store in Pasco that has awesome sushi. I'm forgetting the name right now, but I'll post later with it!

Other restaurants to try:

Amici's (Italian and Wine Bar. Located across from Jackson's Sport's Bar as you enter Howard Amon Park on Lee in Richland).

Casa Mia (Also italian and it is a small chain, but locally owned and very good. There is one in Kennewick and one in Richland).

Between the Bridges (a diner in downton Kennewick that is owned by a lovely woman).

Burger Ranch (again, a small chain, but locally owned. One is is downtown kennewick and the other is in Pasco).

Cafe at Queensgate (In Richland by the new Target. Breakfast and Lunch cafe. Wonderful sandwiches, salads, pastries and coffee. Owned by another amazing woman!)

Country Gentleman (Located in Kennewick on the west end of Clearwater. A family owned business.)

Stone Soup (Another great, locally owned lunch joint! In the Richland Parkway.)

Ice Harbor Brewing (A Brewpub with two locations. One in downtown kennewick in an old warehouse, the other in a more posh location on clover island).

Katya's Bistro and Wine Bar (Off of GW Way in Richland, great food!)

Monterosso's (Across from the Atomic BrewPub on Lee. Italian dining in an antique railroad car).

Nothing But Noodles (Ok, this is definitely a chain, but it is locally owned by another wonderful lady and we SO enjoy it).

Rosy's Diner (Again off of GW way in Richland. A fun place to eat dinner or just get ice cream in an old fashion ice cream parlor).

The Spaghetti Establishment (Also a chain, but locally owned with a very distinct Tri-Cities flavor. It has been here forever and it is on 4th in Kennewick).

Hope that helps to give you at least a starting list. It's hard to know where to go, but there really are plenty of locally owned, amazing places! But if you're mostly cruising the Columbia Center shopping area, they are also easy to miss! Downtown Kennewick, the Parkade in Richland and East Pasco are all great places to cruise and find some gems. I've lived here for over 10 years and just the other day I was heading to Fiesta (the grocery store) in east pasco and found a Pupuseria (a restaurant specializing in food from El Salvador) that I had no idea existed.

I also hope that you've checked out the Farmer's Markets. The Pasco one is the biggest and it's held on Wednesday and Sunday mornings. There is also one on Friday mornings in Richland. Amazing produce and local artists!

WELCOME!

Across from the Mall, there is a good Indian restaurant, I forget the exact name.

The Sub Factory in the strip mall next to Safeway has excellent sub sandwitches, and soup in the colder months.

Agree with Jill above, every one of these that I have tried is good.

Default Sushi and Breakfast

I thought of another good place for Sushi. It's right by Tuesday Morning off Colmbia Center Blvd and called Sushi Ya.

As for breakfast...

*Country Gentleman
*Sageport Grill
*There's a Tea Room in the Parkade in Richland and, although I've never been there for breakfast, if they have it I'm sure it's great.
*Cafe at Queensgate

Those are the one's that come to mind off the top of my head!

I'm guessing you mean India Palace, I've never been there, but I've seen it from the street.

Back to the sushi thing, there's one called Sushi Ya near Value Village, past the mall in Kennewick. Haven't been there either.

Cousins on Rd. 68 has good breakfast, it's kind of like homestyle cooking. They have another location in The Dalles, OR.
