I live in West Pasco, and have lived here all my life. I would rather live in Pasco than Kennewick or Richland. I have a police scanner and giggle at the comments about Pasco having the crime. Kennewick has alot more crime and I personally dont know of anyone that has gotten their car or house broken into. My neighbor hood is so quite and peaceful. There is alot of swimming and watersports that go on here, and the fishing is GREAT!
Happy in Pasco

Default tri cities wind and retirement

My wife was transferd to Kennewick last year, we made the mistake of purchasing a home instead of renting, more on that in a second. The wind along with the dust/dirt comes out of nowhere and very suddenly. It can take your lawn furniture down the street and blow shingles off your roof. It will ruin the paint on your un garaged car and seep in through any crack in your home or come through your AC and window paynes. We paid 114K for our home in Feb 06 and now it is worth about 108K, it was new construction. Pasco is the absalute worst as far as no one speaking english and the other two are not far behind, with higher crime rates (mostley petty and auto theft) with the 60-70% of illegals that make up what I call elpasco, or all of tri cities called mexico north. We lasted 9 months and I was so disgusted we moved back to Edmonds. And are renting our home over there. Looking to retire to E WA is not a bad idea but try Chelan. My mom is building over there and if you can afford it now the home prices are climbing fast. I think that is the best place to look. I would be happy to go into further detail if you want to call me..425-374-8103 JIM

As I posted before I spent almost 30 years in the Tri-Cities and trust me.
I have lived near Dell City / Guadalupe mtn national park area in Texas and now in NW az.

In Texas you had to walk/ bent over into the wind and if the wind quit we fell on our face.

Here in NW az the wind blows 6 months year outa north then 6 months out of the sw.

So with that said I would prefer the tri-cities over other areas. The grass is not always greener on the other side...

Still have family there and visit as often as possible.

If there was work and I was not married I would be back ASAP. But its working better hit town visit and get back to Az.

I worked for the Volunteer fire dept in Benton County. and yes we stayed pretty busy in the unincorporated areas of Kennewick.

West Pasco is the place to be in my opinion, in the older days we had no access like there is into Richland now.
We had the new bridge and the old bridge. pile ups would happen on the blue bridge and then down to the old and around.
Life is good now much easier with all of the new roads.

In case anyone is interested: It's 9:22 am and the sun is shining in a clear blue sky, no wind not even a breeze. The blossoms are blooming and the grass is turning green. I can't wait to get outside! Having just moved from Central Ca in Jan. and grown up in Pac. Northwest, I knew this weather was coming, Hurray, Happy Spring Everyone! Tri-Cities is looking great today.

You should try Florida during hurricane season...even on off season, with spring showers is some nice heavy winds.I moved to Fl. from tri-cities,would rather the tri-cities then here. one minute it is sunny, next winy and mad rain, weather is WILD here.

I never paid attention to the wind when I visited tri-cities twice a year over 10 year period. Now that I live here, it is a royal pain. Following 6months of winter cold, the 5 and 1/2 months of wind, the 15 days in August are great! I am moving south and researching the least windy cities.
