Question Best casual/family places for a steak

There seems to be a big lack of steak houses around here. Back where we used to live we would often go to a Lonestar/Texas Roadhouse kind of a place and we also had several local choices. The kind of place where you could show up in jeans (or shorts) and tshirt, get a decent steak dinner for under $20 and they put a little bucket of peanuts on your table.

Other than Outback/Applebees, are there any decent casual places around here for a steak dinner?

Not really....my hubby's fave place is TX Roadhouse,, but nothing here compares. I work at Outback and I may be a little partial, but I wouldn't go anywhere else for a steak. Sterlings (seafood/steak place) has a steak special one day a week w/all you can eat salad buffet, but it's not the greatest...but for the price, it's not bad. We went to Granny's Buffet the other night and they had steak and my kids all loved it, but it didn't look appetizing to me. They had a fabulous cut of roast, though.

TX Roadhouse is fun... nothing like that around here. We could definitely use something similar.

Beef is not the Tri-Cities' strong point, either at the store or dining out. Outback comes as close to range-raised beef around here as you're going to find, in my experience. But my opinion is that any steak that is inedible medium rare is just a sad situation.

Pork here is surprisingly good by comparison, as is chicken. And we are close enough to Seattle that you can find pretty good seafood; it's not the Seattle waterfront, but it's good nonetheless. I'm surprised we don't do more with apple cookery and cider, since we have tons and tons of apples. Non-citrus fruit is one of the area's biggest culinary strengths, in my view.

Templeman's is still there. I tend to forget about it since we moved to the other side of Kennewick. The restaurant, however, is closed. Yeah, if I wanted to take my best shot at getting decent local grocery beef Templeman's would be my call.

What you are looking for is TJ Cattle Company, unfortunately it closed awhile back, not at all clear to me why it closed, they seemed to be doing a good business. Anthony's and Cedars have steak, it's not their specialty and they are a good bit more posh (and expensive) than TJ's used to be.

More than a few restaurants here have closed due to nutcase landlords jacking the rent to unreasonable levels.

Flipping through the yellow pages, and surprised that there apparently is *no* good casual steakhouse in the Tri-Cities - except Outback.

Laugh if you want, and they don't always have steak, but Old Country Buffet has pretty decent steaks when they have steaks (evenings and weekends). Steak comes and goes on the menu. Not as good as TS had, but for a steak that's included in an all-you-can-eat deal, better than you would probably expect.

Looks like a business opportunity for somebody.
