Tri-cities is a good place to leave. There is lots to do in the summer and the schools are good in my opinion.

If dogs are the largest concern, I'm good then, real good to move to the Tri-Cities. Strays wonder around quite a bit in the Inland Empire, and I'm a dog person myself so that only helps.
I was looking at some crime statistics, and if they're correct even Pasco is safer then Riverside, CA.
Jobs are still a concern though.

The economy is better around here than most of the rest of the state. Do you have specific work experience or skills?

I'm not really experienced myself (still going to college), but we're mostly laborers. I'm working part-time on my campus.
The only other family member with a job is currently a Childcare worker and has experience in that field for more than 20 years, but she no longer wishes to work with problematic children.
Another member has 10 or so years experience with machinery-in particular he's a Punch Press Operator and recently obtained certification to be a machinist through NTMA. He's also has great auto mechanic knowledge but he hates working with cars.
The other member is perhaps the worst off-no experience like me but he's doing nothing. He only has NTMA accreditation as well but that's about it. In particular this one is looking for a entry-level job.
We can't really find any job here in California-a position opens up and the hiring company gets like 5000 people inquiring about the job in a single day...that's why I want to move out of here.

If you want seclusion you might try the Whatcom County or by the Vancouver border. I'm here in California born and raised and don't like it here no more. I like to go to Washington but I have heard their property tax on houses are terrible worse here in California if you can believe that. What can be worse than California as far as your money can go?
Washington They can raise your tax up very high at one time unlike here where we have prop. 13 protection or property taxes can only go up so much at a time. Not no 30% increase in property tax in a year.

RE: Job hunt
You would be best starting at the State website for job searching: https://fortress.wa.gov/esd/worksource/ they have some training resources too. I live in Kennewick myself and moved up from Santa Barbara, CA in 2003 due to cost of living. I love the family friendly community and pace of life. There are soooo many free family events in the summer its insane. The public library system is amazing (Richland isn't part of the larger network). Our son went to Sunset View and loved the school system. Plus we're 10 minutes away from anywhere, even if its somewhere in Richland or Pasco. We haven't had to deal with prejudice, my son and I are hispanic although I look like a gringa. I think you and your family wll get settled in the area just fine.
Best Wishes! ~ Elana mod cut:

I don't think our property tax is that high. We do have sales tax but don't have income tax, and we can deduct large purchases on your federal taxes.

That's where the tax assessor sticks you on the property tax.

Well even if it is high compared to others, we are better off than the residents of California in general.

I agree to a certain extent much more rain which I like, more green, more space but if you are a home buyer you would loose your house especiallly if you are on a fixed income or a retiree. That's not comforting.
