Hanford in the Smithsonian
In the museum of American History on the National Mall I was not surprised to find an exhibit on Hanford, but I was surprised at one aspect of it. Displayed in front were two t-shirts, one from some anti-nuclear protest group and one from RHS with the whole mushroom cloud logo. The museum explains that this reflects strong local divisions about the site and nuclear energy. Evidently the museum imagines that this area actually has anti-nuclear sentiment. It does not clarify that pretty much all our anti-nuclear sentiment carpools from Seattle and goes home when it's finished being ignored by bored locals.
Then again, I guess to DC, Seattle is the same as Tri-Cities anyway--all part of the 'other Washington', the unimportant one.
