Default Relocation info for Richland? Pls Help!

Hi there, 1st time posting, but have read many threads on the Tri-Cities area.... family has potential opportunity to relocate to Richland from Bay Area, Ca..... Richland seems great on the surface - great schoools, affordable housing, plenty of outdoor recreation, family oriented.....

Some concerns:how/ where can I find updated info on the hanford contamination? Seems like a very political issue (the environmental cleanup) so I am afraid my chances of finding "honest" information are slim...... are there serious concerns by the residents of Richland?

Again, assuming we can live w/ some wind, the dry, dusty climate, hot summers and some cold winters, this place seems ideal to raise a family. I have two young boys and we're looking for a place we can 'set down roots' and live for quite a while.... we can no longer do that in Northern Ca....... too expensive for what you get (marginal public schools). Thanks in advance for any info!!!

Hi outdoormom.

Probably the most updated and explanatory information will be on the Washington State Department of Ecology's website. It gives you lots of interesting information about Hanford and what's being done and what is planned for the future. I'll give you the link to the site's F.A.Q. and you can browse around the site using the links on the left side of the page.

There are concerns as you pointed out but nothing so alarming that should prevent you from moving there. IMHO, the real concerns were back in the 40s and 50s when radiation risks were at their highest. Yes, the buried waste issue is a concern now but hopefully will be managed intelligently.

Anyway, I hope that some of your questions will be answered by looking over the department of ecology's site.

Thanks.
