I vaguely remember this story as a very small child. I recall the movie vividly. I was scared for weeks.

Why all the sudden interest in this case?

One of the original investigators in the case was recently made chief of police and decided to reopen the case because he didn't believe Williams committed all of the offenses.

Wayne Williams has professed his innocence from the beginning and has tried to win appeals for his release. He actually was never convicted of the child murders but found guilty in the slaying of two men. The premise that the child murders "stopped" after his arrest keeps him in prison. He has very strong evidence that he in fact is NOT the Atlanta Child killer. There are several scholar lawyers and advocates working to have him released.

My thoughts when he was arrested was that there was so much uproar about the police catching the killer of children that they had to arrest somebody. I have always had my doubts, also. Sure hope this re-opening of the case provides some closure.

My late g/f who was psychic used to call, write the Atlanta police for years about this case. She "saw" that it was a black man who killed those kids but she said it was NOT Wayne Williams.

She also called and wrote to Neil Diamond that he had throat cancer long before he was diagnosed.

So.......maybe she was right all along about Williams too??? IDK

Had, past tense. I didn't really pay too much attention to the news bite when it was on....back in the 90's I think and she was telling me about it in the 80's. I'm not postitive it was cancer but I know he had to have an operation on his throat. Maybe his vocal chords. Anyway, he's all better it seems. (I think) LOL I'm trying to dredge up distant memories here! My g/f's unexpected death kinda made me go blank about what we used to talk about until something brings it up in my mind.

That's the deal though, as soon as Wayne Williams went to prison, the murders did stop.

The city was so scared that there were no more random kids walking around the streets alone. The killer had to satisfy himself with older victims.

He was caught throwing something into the river. A body later turned up. Wayne Willams told the cops a lie of why he did what he did.

He's guilty.
