I meant to type "beautiful DAUGHTER" instead of hag of a wife.

Her prosthetic leg was found in the area, just off the road, where people apparently dump alot of garbage. LE are now digging up their back yard to see what they can find there. I guess they think the leg was taken off of her and discarded after she was killed.
This case is really really is sickening...this poor child. I hope these 2 are both thrown in prison for life, although NC does have the DP.

I too hope that there is a speedy resolution for this case; listening to the news reports, I belive the PD was looking for specific 'evidence' in that landfill and apparently, from what I am reading here, they have found it/some so hopefully that evidence will be helpful to the prosecution in this case. I may understand lots of things - I may understand why some people do some of the things they do [depending, of course, upon what those things are]; however, I just simply cannot understand and probably never will understand how anyone, especially parents, biological or step, can ever do anything to a child. I don't get, I can't get it and even though I really do understand, intellectually, [I suppose] that if someone is a psychopath [although they do know right from wrong, they just don't care, unless they get caught], or have been abused, they follow the abuse by doing the same....emotionally, parent-wise, he**, human being wise, to hurt/maim/murder a child, any child, even worse a disabled child, is totally egregious and I don't even think the word egregious is a strong enough word.

Sugarmaple I agree with you totally! A woman killing an abusive husband, a homeowner protecting their house from an intruder - these scenarios are but two that introduce shades of gray.
But in this case I see only darkness and questions. Why did the bio dad take her from the loving grandparent in Australia? Could it be that he wanted or needed the SSI money that Zahra's illness surely would have garnered?
This woman - the step monster - why was he so enthralled by her? He knew of the abuse - of this I am sure - so why did he permit it?
I m sorry but I have this perception - it is more difficult for many, not all - women to lovingly parent the child of a parent from a previous relationship than it is for men.
I AM a step mother and I have one.
Let me say that we are very different people.
Real evil does exist in this world. For nay sayers I would suggest M.Scott Peck's classic "People of the Lie"
I am more than horrified by this latest child murder.
I am also deeply saddened that no one in the community took action, although by all reports they knew that something was wrong.

This is sad, and a critcal look needs to be taken to see what could have prevented this...unfortnately, when I taught school, when I reported a something wrong to CPS, like suspected neglect, it was written off, basically I had to see the kid, with a broken arm, and he had to tell me verbally that his parent did it for a CPS investigation. So, I don't blame the school system. No one seems to care any longer...

I'll never understand abuse to any living creature that is vulnerable. I happen to have pets and give monthly to the ASPCA, but that is just my chosen charity as I love animals and figure they cannot look out for themselves.
I don't understand animal abuse, child abuse or elder abuse. I don't understand why neighbors didn't make something happen. I can understand that these sickos were too sick (or evil) to not do the right thing, but those on the outside who knew - they were the ones who should have made sure CPS got involved.
Whenever I read the stuff in this forum, I feel so normal. It's hard to remember, at times, that this world is filled with some very sick and twisted humans who should have never been born.

At the risk [smile] of getting into a 'debate' about whose responsibility overseeing a child's welfare is, I am beginning to believe, more and more so, that not only is an offender or perhaps in this case an 'accused' offender but those who 'knew' something might happen to that child - too often someone will say, well, someone else will make that call, or I don't want to get involved or hopefully someone will recognize .... I think at some point in addition to the parent/step parent, or whomever, others have to be accountable as well - I sure don't have all of the answers but somehow some kind of societal change has to take place, whether it be workers in a DCYS department [or whatever each state department of child/youth services], or a school administrator, teacher, next door neighbor, grocery clerk, I don't know...I shudder to think how many other children are hurt, abused or killed when perhaps one of them could have been saved by someone stepping up to the plate....

Yes, agree with your post. I used to work in social services with problem kids. As such, part of my job involved working with CPS. In my experience with CPS, at least where I live, they do take complaints seriously. I think we all have a responsibility to at least anonymously report things when we suspect something isn't right. One can do this - be anonymous.

CPS does not work, that entire system is corrupt. The workers are stupid, and easily manipulated by anti-social people, and who are child abusers? People with anti-social personailties. Honestly, the whole system is a joke. Sorry, but after working with CPS workers for years, I have so little respect for those workers. I have no doubt that this step mother was probably "investigated" and the whole thing was blown off. Unless you are in their face, and make them do their job, they don't. They only do their job, when other law enforcement is involved, and their notes will be reviewed by judges. Then, they OVER do their jobs, to "impress" others...and if you report anything "anonymously" forget about it, that report will go right into the round file by their desk.
