Default Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world.

Human trafficking is a serious issue around the world as well as within the United States. This year, 2010, marks the first time that the United States has ranked itself in the Trafficking in Persons Report alongside other countries, according to Secretary Clinton. Finally the government is publicly announcing that this is and has been a problem in America. Still with little media coverage, many Americans are unaware of the extent of human trafficking that goes on within the United States

The criminal immigrant population (legal and illegal) are to blame for the USA being ranked on that list.

HumanTrafficking.org | United States of America

Not completely, teenagers and young women from lessor socioeconomic backgrounds and drug use account for the US population who are or will become victims.

If that were the case the USA would have been on that list years ago. But this is the first year we're ranked and I stated why in my post above.

There have always been people from poor areas who become victims of exploitation.

Human trafficking is entirely different.

Because we know that all crime and human/drug trafficking would cease to exist if there were no illegal aliens - the root cause of all the ills of the world!

The post is for awareness, not to deny or down play its existance. What year we ranked, whether they're the poor US population, legal or illegal aliens doesn't make them any less a victim of exploitation or the subject of lessor importance. If its happening in our country, then it is a problem with or without your recognition.

We can't blame all the ills of the world on illegal aliens.

Thnk you Virgode for introducing a topic that is seldom touched upon - or spoken about - or seen as it is - as a crime.

I am with Wicked Felina on this - I have never ever heard of so-called illegal aliens being involved in human trafficking and I have to wonder if the poster who blamed illegals (read people darker than you, who have a foriegn accent) even knows what human traffiking is.
When I think about all of the insane wierd ass crimes commited by native born americans like Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy 2 middle class WASPS - I have to wonder what you are taling about.

Also I want to point out that human trafficking is NOT only an American problem but a global crime.
I am involved with Ukraine adoption and when the girls graduate - if you can call it that from orphanages at 16 they are frequently whisked away to enter a life of prostitution.

And the perps are not Latino.

If you are involved with Ukrainian orphanages then you should be familiar enough with Ukrainian culture to realise that prostitution is not viewed nearly with the same contempt as in the west. Again, you are conflagrating the issue of prostitution with human trafficking, and it's not the same. Many women CHOOSE prostitution willingly, they are not abducted off to some other place where they are forced to prostitute themselves for someone else's financial benefit.

One that has always puzzled me most is the hypocrisy wherein we never discuss this issue about Israel either. It's always about how we have to defend Israel and how these Muslims are keeping women oppressed, when the age of consent in Israel is TWELVE and that country is also one of the prime destinations for human trafficking. How is it this never gets mentioned? Muslim fundamentalists don't use it because many hold the same values and beliefs, and the press doesn't use it because... why?

Because no matter how titilating, people don't want to hear about sex slaves being a problem in the "civilized west." Because people will tolerate only so much of this topic before their discomfort level rises to the point they change the channel. The problem is there's simply no money in solving the problem.

Actually, the girls who leave the orphanages are taken to other countries. Primarily to the middle east.
They are not treated well. And they do not live long and healthy lives. This IS human trafficking - transporting children from one country to another for fiduciary gain.
Israel happens to be one of the middle eastern countries involved with this as do several Arab nations.

As to the perception of prostitution by the people of Ukraine as opposed to the United States, there is really no country that frowns on prostitution the way the US does. (the UK is close)
However, I do not know any Ukrainian mother who would choose this line of work for their daughter.

To redirect the thread it is about human trafficking and I gave one example of that practice.

It is hard to believe that this is still such a epidemic world wide.
I watched a special on Show Time awhile back. It was heartbreaking.
