It is doubtful any type of intervention would have helped this parent, he was wired wrong. Some people don't deserve the opportunity to be parents, no amount of intervention could have corrected this parent.
I think rewards-based discipline works so much better. Parents need to be trained, just as everybody else. I was somewhat of a dog-trainer. Not to equate the two, but we have revolutionized the way to train dogs by reward instead of punishment. A better result for everybody concerned, without instilling fear or the potential for abuse.

Coincidence! Wayne Williams was on TV tonight, there is a special on serial killers on CNN. He DENIES his guilt to this day!!!

Criminals are such liars. He portrays himself as a "victim" of the system.

I'm with you...to a certain point. I think there are better methods for discipline, but each child is different. Some kids will respond to time outs and talking to's. Other kids will sit in time out and grin about it, then get up and continue whatever misdeeds they were doing. Some kids fall apart in tears if you so much as raise your voice, others will stand toe to toe with you. I think parents know their own kids, knows what works for their families, and as long as their discipline doesn't fall into the lines of abuse, they have the right to raise their kids how they see fit.

I think CPS workers do have to be mindful of cultural and personal differences, however, I don't think it's a reason or excuse to overlook abuse. There are parents who allowed their children to die over treatable illnesses because they didn't believe in doctors. They were still held accountable for their child's death, as they should be. Parents who were raised by picking their own switch off the tree to get lashed with, or an extension cord, who feel it's okay to use the same methods on their own kids are and should be held accountable. But a CPS worker who doesn't believe a child should be spanked at all can't go into each case with the mindset that every spanked child should be removed. There would be no where to put them all, and most importantly, no place to put the kids who are really assaulted.

I know what your saying though. Some traditions do need to change for the better.

Ha, speak of the devil, literally!

A lot of people believe he is innocent, even parents of some of the victims. I think people had this image of the murderer of black children in their mind, and he just doesn't fit the image.

People who are referred to CPS need to hear a messge, that it is never okay to hit kids. They don't know what the limit is, so giving them a "nod" on hitting is not what they need. They need information on improved parenting skills, and often information about child development.

Why Caylee Anthony and not Christian Choate? I have my thoughts, what are yours?
Caylee's mom had better lawyers. Nothin' more to it. You can purchase a Not Guilty plea if your pockets are deep enough. Justice is for sale.

ABSOLUTELY nothing is shocking and/or eye opening here. Its business as usual, in the good ole USA.
Not to mention the whole world.

This is the kind of thing most people don't want to know about. It's too horrible to contemplate.

Why say that he was "allegedy" beaten to death and secretly buried? We know that happened, right?

Yeah, well we all know...kids can just end up in graves, and no one is responsible for it...maybe this child "drowned" and they just forgot to call the police, so they buried him...it has happened...
