Brandon McInerney was a 14-year-old boy from a broken home when he gunned down a classmate in front of stunned students at a Ventura County middle school all because that fellow student was gay. That was three years ago, now McInerney is about to stand trial for the murder of the 15 year old classmate Larry King.

Under cross-examination by defense attorney Scott Wippert, Cristian said McInerney was known to hang out with black students and play basketball with them. Prosecutors are trying to establish McInerney as a white supremacist.

The trial is being held in a Chatsworth courtroom because of pretrial publicity in Ventura County. Today started with testimony by Ventura County Chief Medical Examiner Ronald O'Halloran, who did the autopsy on King.

He testified that two gunshots entered the back of King's head and lodged at the front of his skull. King had fingernail polish on his fingers and toes at the time of this death, O'Halloran said. A faint mustache was forming on the 15-year-old's body.

Prosecution is trying to press for hate crime charges. But that may have been refuted by today's testimony.

This is a case I am watching. I went to E.O. Green Jr. High back in the late 1970's. The former Principal of the school is a long time friend. He was the Principal during the time both Larry and Brandon were attending the school. The area that both boys lived was not too far from where I grew up.

I was wondering if this will get the national attention that some cases have garnered recently. I know that on KFI they mentioned that this is the next big national case.

Juries reflect the values of the community in which they live. Those values can include homophobia and other things that depict the "dark side" of human nature.

The only wrinkle in this case was that the perpetrator of the crime was fourteen. Its also possible some of the jurors felt he shouldn't be tried as an adult. I have mixed feelings about that.

Was this the same Jury used in the Casey Anthony trial?
