Although I'm not sure I agree with the 1-hour time limit, I believe this situation with a mother not reporting a missing child for 31 days should be a felony and should never happen again. I believe this is a good place to begin.

What the petition says:

"This petition proposes to make it a felony, under the law, when in care of a parent, grandparent, relative, family friend, caregiver:

1. Failure to report a child's death within an one (1 ) hour time period.

2. Failure to report a child's disappearance within a specified amount of time 24 hours or less depending on the circumstances surrounding the disappearance."

What makes me sad is that a law like this is so important. There are other kids that are "missing" that parents don't report gone.

My question is not intended to sound flip or sarcastic so please do not take it that way. I'm just curious.

If there are children missing that parents don't report as missing, how do we know they are missing?

Its pretty sad that a law has to be created to force parents to report that their own child is dead or missing...HMM

I don't think they should stop with just that law. I don't think the accused should be able to make money pre-trial if they are a suspect in a high profile case like CA's. Let's face it, if CA goes to trial with a public defender and not lawyers paid for by news agencies the outcome would have been different.

Edit, whoops, little early in the morning, need to wake up and read clearly before I type something out.

I would like to know what are the punishments for not reporting before I sign anything.
