Trial Begins In Toddler's Python Death – Nancy Grace - CNN.com Blogs

This is interesting, Six jurors and one alternate were selected Monday to hear testimony in the trial of a Florida mother and her boyfriend on third-degree murder, manslaughter and child neglect charges for the death of a toddler strangled by their pet python in 2009.

And it is in Orlando...what is with that place?! Something in the water?

What do you think? The snake escaped from the cage, strangled the baby...The charges are third degree murder, manslaughter, and child neglect. Guilty, or Not Guilty.

I don't know...this is Orlando...I will go with Not Guilty.

Jury picked Monday 7/11
Case Heard 7/12
Jury brings in Verdict 7/14

GUILTY ON ALL CHARGES ... Jaren Hare, 21, and Charles "Jason" Darnell, 34, who leaned on one another after the verdicts were read, face prison sentences ranging from 15 years to 45 years for manslaughter, third-degree murder and child neglect. The couple had rejected a pretrial plea offer that would have capped any prison sentence at 10 years. Sentencing will be August 24.

Let's see, the snake already got out earlier that night, both the scum are using drugs....the female piece of human waste doping it up while pregnant. Guilty as charged.....good thing they rejected the plea deal so when he's doing his full time at FSP and gets a beat down he'll understand the true definition of an "accident".

The grandmother even offered to pay for a better enclosure for the snake and they turned down her offer. Fools.

Here's a better idea, don't keep something in the house that can strangle you eat you as pet.

Once again the nation looks at FL and rolls it eyes.

Oh no....she actually told the truth about what happened to her daughter...they'll find her guilty . You have to lie to get acquitted.

So sad about the baby. Why parents keep pets that can harm their children is beyond me. Unfortunately, they will have to live with this for the rest of their lives.

I don't know why anyone would want a "pet" that could kill a baby. I know I have had dogs, which have been known to kill children...but I really wonder, if my dog had killed my baby, would I be in jail for manslaughter now? I have a feeling the drug use went into this...and the fact that the pet was a snake. And possibly...backlash from Casey Anthony trial?

It wasn't the pet itself that was the problem. The snake had escaped before, it was kept in a makeshift enclosure, it hadn't been fed for a month, anyone with an ounce of common sense would know that it was a dangerous situation.

If the snake had been kept in a better enclosure and fed weekly (like they should be) I think it would have been considered a tragic accident and the parents would never have been charged. Instead they created a ridiculously unsafe situation. Given the circumstances, those parents caused the death of their child.
