WE as a society need to start getting involved and stop acting like we shouldn't. Too many times we hear or see things and we do NOTHING about it. Pick up the damn phone and call someone if you KNOW that the child was PUT. IN. A. BOX!!!! as punishment, in the past! NOWHERE is that proper parenting!
I am trying to do that. It gets hard and it is not always successful or worse. We just have to keep trying.

Ethically that's true, but not legally. An attorney once told me that under the law -- and this is a direct quote -- "children are furniture." Possessions. To be used, abused, traded like baseball cards, and thrown out as desired.

This is the most common cause. I have done it myself but I won't anymore. I am vigilant where abused and neglected children are concerned.

eta; I am almost certain I encountered a young boy that had been kidnapped and I didn't know what to do. I hesitated and he was gone.....I will never forget his face or what he said to me.....I can hardly bear to think of it, even now, 10-15 years later......

Children are very annoying and an extreme inconvenience, not to mention expensive to feed and maintain---even the little angels, at times. The thing that surprises me is how FEW of them are murdered.

(Please do not read into this things I did not say.)
