What a terribly sad tragedy. Very heartbreaking.

Too hard to fathom.
Yet an age old practice without respect to borders, language, or culture, just the same.

Maybe this was his plan all along. A guy who kills is wife, like a stalker who kills the woman he is stalking, sometimes believes "she doesn't want me here on earth but in heaven we'll be together forever."

At least here in UT the visits usually take place in a neutral location. One if my friends has a grandson in this situation with his father. They don't allow the teen to walk home from school for fear of the dad snatching him.

I don't know how long his visitations were for but I know they wouldn't have been overnight. Most likely a couple of hours.

I don't know about that. I think more likely he was starting to feel the squeeze, things weren't going his way and it sounds like the kids were opening up about the night their mom disappeared. He was probably starting to feel like the "victim," and most likely he blamed Susan's parents for all his problems, and what better way to punish them than to take those boys from them?

I wonder where that OP is on this topic?
Can't you for once just comment on the story at hand without dragging your personal hostilities towards others into it?

Your total lack of compassion for those poor children is appalling yet not surprising.

I'm in the same state that this tragedy took place in. The person who I posted about who supervised these visits in a neutral location is also in Washington.

So, I'm wondering if it isn't so much state policy that dictates where the visits take place but the policies of these individual "contract services?"

I remember an incident some years ago, this one in Oregon, where a woman was supposed to have supervised visits with her toddler. One of these visits was allowed to take place in a public park. When the caseworker's attention was off the mother and baby for a moment, the mother took off with the baby in its stroller and later killed it (I can't remember if it was a boy or a girl). If I remember right, she slit the baby's throat. I don't know if that caseworker was employed by CPS or by a "contract service," as well.

Local News | Josh Powell kills 2 young sons in 'an act of evil,' authorities say | Seattle Times Newspaper
Backstory compiled: Steven Powell, Susan Powell's Father-in-Law, Busted for Child Porn - True Crime Report

... The more I get the feeling his father put him up to betray his wife or killed his wife as a set up for a bigger plan. Josh might have been lured out to that campsite by his own father making promises of something else while his father went to the house and did something underhanded with Susan. He already played the loyalty head game with him when he divorced Josh's mother. He had already interfered in their marriage.

I suspect Steven Powell had designs of getting those 2 boys in his custody for sexual exploitation, even if it meant getting his own son out of the way to make it happen. If Steven would make passes at his own sons bride, there isn't any reason to believe he ever had a real relationship with his son. All just pawns in a sick little game he was playing, likely stringing Josh along his whole life if what his sisters testimony indicates is true of their childhood. During the search for Susan's whereabouts Steven announced in the press that he had an affair with his daughter in law when all other evidence pointed that she wanted nothing to do with him.

This investigation should not close just because Josh committed suicide. I think he committed suicide because of what his own father enlisted him into, only he didn't quite realize what 'that' was until it was too late. I think he allowed betrayal from his father pulling strings and meddling in his family life to unravel his mind. My gut instinct is saying 'grandpa' is a bigger monster than anyone is even beginning to imagine, and that Josh's insane actions were actually a response to his fathers evil and an inability to face the fate he had created for his family. He couldn't see a way to make anything right.

Irrational, yes. Wrong to allow innocents to be harmed, yes. Not an excuse, an explanation, because distraught people do insane things. It's plausible that he had allowed himself to be duped as a tool to groom his very own sons to be delivered to grandpa for sexual abuse. It would be a motive to take them out with him. Not a justification. A motive.

What other motives are there? What on earth is going on in their minds?
What's even sadder, is that a POSTER ON CD would use this tragedy to get her opinion out that ONLY MEN commit these acts of VIOLENCE. Just to prove a point to another poster. Domestic violence has no GENDER!! We should be grieving for the family, not trying to make a point, or reps!!

Men are not the only one's who commit these acts, how quickly some forget these women...............
Susan Smith one of the first women to shock the nation driving her two beautiful boy's in the river, Andrea Yates, drowning all 5 children.
Their husband's have to live with this Hell every day.

Here's a list of at least ten women ........Casey Anthony Let off: List of 10 Women Who Killed Their Children

I didn't see that thread, but the social workers who play with people's lives in a godlike fashion are nearly always women.

Some people have a limit to how much injustice they can take before they really lose it.
