I am glad Amanda and her boyfriend have been set free.....they are innocent.

The guilty man is behind bars......the man whose DNA was found all over the crime scene. Too bad they only gave him 16 years.

Why would he be joking? That's a fundamental feature of our justice system in the U.S.

I agree, and to me it's fairly clear she was quite self-absorbed, naive, and possibly a little stupid. I venture to say she's grown and matured during this time and I do hope she makes amends in those areas needed.

I was watching the live streaming today of that half hour+ where she had to sit and wait and it was clear to me that it was a very difficult time for her. She agonized and when she understood the verdict, I believe her breakdown was quite genuine. I fail to see how anyone can see any equivalence with Casey Anthony. Well, except that they are both female.

There is a faction within this society that believed that Knox was innocent simply because they saw a picture of her, and noted that she is white, with blue eyes, and has such an attractive face. These are the same people who condemned OJ before his trial even began, utterly appalled at the possibility that a black man killed two white people, including an attractive blonde white woman. When Knox gets off, these people applaud. When OJ got off, they were outraged and angry. It is a shameful aspect of this country's continuing struggle with race, bigotry, the inequities caused by unearned privilege, and the double standard that negatively impacts perceptions about and treatment of black people.

When a verdict came down like the one today, a verdict that makes these racists happy, one can get the feeling that an enormous injustice has just occurred. One gets the impression that, were Amanda Knox a black American woman, there would not be such an outrage over her conviction or the initial assumption that she was innocent. The racial aspect is ever-present as is the double-standard.

Some years ago, a tragic murder occurred in Las Vegas, where a young white man followed a young black girl into the ladies room, then snapped her neck, instantly killing her. See link below. The young girl had been left to roam around the casino by her gambling and neglectful father where she found herself being pursued by this young white guy and his student friend from UC-Berkeley. The Berkeley student watched his friend follow the young girl into the restroom, even peeked in to hear him trying to sexually molest her in a bathroom stall before he snapped her neck. The Berkeley student did nothing to stop his friend from killing that girl or even pursuing the 7 year-old into the ladies room. Very tragic and disturbing circumstances that made both men two of the lowest form of human beings in history, not fit to live. Maybe a similar occurrence happened here where Knox and her boyfriend knew that Kercher was either being killed or likely to be killed. They did nothing to stop it, preferring instead to have sex and turn up the music to avoid hearing her screams and pleas for help. Knox gave a false alibi for reasons unknown. Who knows? One certainly doesn't have a legal obligation to step in, but still, it leaves a bitter taste about the possibility that Knox ignored her desperately pleading roommate as she was being killed by someone Knox knew was capable of doing it.

I remain extremely skeptical of Amanda Knox and I certainly don't hold her in high regard. My thoughts remain with Kercher's family.

I remember the Stromeyer case very well. This is what the killer's friend (who witnessed his friend molesting the child and simply walked away) had to say about the child that was murdered....

In the weeks following Strohmeyer's arrest, Cash told the Los Angeles Times that he did not dwell on the murder of Sherrice Iverson. "I'm not going to get upset over somebody else's life. I just worry about myself first. I'm not going to lose sleep over somebody else's problems." He also told the newspaper that the publicity surrounding the case had made it easier for him to "score with women." Cash also told the Long Beach Press-Telegram: "I'm no idiot ... I'll get my money out of this."

But back to Amanda Knox...

The attitude is that someone who looks like "her" could not possibly commit such a crime.

My sympathy lies with the Kercher family (who are the real victims, not Amanda) and the Black bar owner who Amanda falsely accused (and who could have spent his life behind bars for a crime he didn't commit.

Also, Black people are tired of White people falsely accusing them murders (a la Susan Smith who claimed that she was carjacked by a Black man when she really murdered her own children). In the past, Black men were lynched based solely on the word of a White person and this hsit is still happening. Every time a White person is in a bind they blame a Black person. Its disgusting. And Amanda will pay for her "crimes" in some manner or other.

Indeed - I think we ought to ignore the evidence and just presume white people are guilty, and black people are innocent - To do anything other would be racist.

Who are "these people" that A_Lexus knows so well?

The two trials didn't even occur in the same country and people here are trying to apply their opinions on American race relations to a trial in Italy?

I don't know if she did it or she didn't.
I DO know this - Americans are arrogant. When you visit another country, be on good behavior. Avoid even the appearance of evil. Their systems of law are different from ours.

In Europe there are no executions. No death penalty. There has been so much outrage over what this upper middle class white girl went through that I am sickened that the same compassion is not extended towards people in OUR OWN COUNTRY WHO ARE EXECUTED>

No I'm not black or a man. I am a WASP woman.
