Still nothing on the case, even with the red Jetta in custody.

Yes, gangs are prevalent south of Morgan Hill, but doubt if this was connected to that activity. Lots of farm workers, too.

I continue to believe it was someone she knew due to the short window of opportunity.

An arrest has been made, and they're saying she is almost certainly dead... Murder arrest made in Sierra LaMar case

Just the other day my (homework club) students, who don't live too far from where Sierra disappeared, were asking my opinion on whether she was dead. My answer was "I don't know, but I certainly hope not" - and then we went on to discuss the importance of being safe, and never walking without a parent or buddy. They're much younger than Sierra, but I felt it made for a good learning/teaching opportunity. Anyway, my thoughts are with her family, and hopefully they will have some closure soon.

P.S. Kudos to the authorities who caught her (alleged) murderer, and I think they did a fine job with the case overall.

Let us just hope this guy confesses and leads authorities to the body. If not, the steep up hill slog of a trial, after trial, after trial. If he leads them to the body, possibly he can plea this to life in prison without parole; otherwise, he is facing the death penalty. Which, even though a thread in and of itself, he probably won't get anyway, because it will be outlawed soon.

As of now, the major issue facing the prosecution is no body. A lot easier with a 15 yr old to show she most likely dead, then an adult, however some serious hoops will have to be jumped through.

No body but they do have his DNA on her backpack w/ her clothes that was found early on and I think her DNA was found in his red Jetta so I think that fact that there's no body wouldn't matter all that much as other cases have been prosecuted, more so lately, w/o body - but it's sad - she had no chance against him. He may also be involved in other missing cases in the area - apparently he worked at a farm at one point and should check around there (if they havent already).

Police hope he'll be forthcoming in future interviews.

According to this article he does have a criminal assault history.

Statement Analysis: Sierra LaMar: Direct and Circumstantial Evidence

Investigators also linked Garcia-Torres to a March 2009 assault in Morgan Hill through DNA evidence, Smith said. She did not reveal the specifics of the incident.

Garcia-Torres has a criminal record, Smith said. He was previously convicted of interfering with a police officer and was arrested but not prosecuted in connection with a felony assault. Smith declined to elaborate on the incidents but said the assault was not sexual.

Providing this creep is the killer i wonder what he did with body & why in the hell did he have to kill her ? The police say she was a random pick for him but i have my doubts about that. I bet he planned to kidnap her & do whatever he did. LOTS of sick ****s in ca.
