I remember this case very well; it has been a very controversial case and continues to be one. There are those in the political and non-political arena[s] that believe Pollard should be freed/pardoned, that he was 'sold down the river by both the US and Israel', that his crimes were not treason [by definition of the term treason].
I think it is beneficial to read the entire article -- fascinating actually. I do find it interesting that, although a plea was offered/agreed which was NOT to include a life sentence, the judge made a different determination, and Pollard was given a life sentence.
Other convicted spies, who did commit treason [according to definition, i.e., selling secret documents to US enemies] did not all get life sentences...
After reading this link, thoughts? comments? Was this sentence appropriate? Was it politically based? Espionage, certainly, treason, no as Israel is a US ally. Hmmm.
