There was a time that this area was known for maple syrup, ski resorts, gorgeous foliage, Ben & Jerry's and clean living and clean environment. For whatever reason, this area was considered a magical location - different way of life -- laid back, safe, etc.
What is happening in our society, what is happening to people that is bringing out the worst crimes, the most egregious crimes? The more and more I see these horrible stories, the more I wonder if people are truly born without a soul, no less a conscience.
And what kind of punishment is appropriate and/or sufficient that could really make a difference? Is there any? One reads about the advantages of rehabilitation / education -- don't know any more if that works and/or that is the better option as opposed to straight forward incarceration with no frills.
