The shooter was Adam Lanza aged 20 years old (and not his older brother Ryan as previously posted). It seems that Adam had with him some identification of his older brother and therefore the mistaken identification.

There are 20 children dead plus 8 adults. 18 children were dead at the school and 2 more children pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The shooter killed his mother before coming to the school and committed suicide after killing all those children and adults at the school.

According to NBC this morning, one classmate (a little girl) of the dead children was home sick yesterday and therefore was saved but lost of all her classmates.

The guns used by the shooter were legally owned by his mother who was his first victim.

The older brother Ryan of the shooter lives in Hoboken and was escorted by police after being questioned for hours to be with his family in Connecticut. He is not a suspect but he did tell police that his brother was mentally ill. The older brother's roommates were also questioned but released as well.

The killer's father lives in Stamford, Connecticut and is remarried. His home was also searched for clues to why this happened.

that clears up a lot, thanks Chava61
So many mentally ill people are free to do as they please and some really should not be in society ....it's really sad...no matter what you think of how it could have been prevented...it happened and it will mark many lives forever..
But having said that, as a society things have to be done to at least try to prevent it. Like was said in a previous post. If someone acts strange or acts like they may be a potential threat...do something , get involved...ages ago people made things their business, nowadays everyone is afraid to stick their neck out...

It was reported on NBC that the shooter shattered the glass at the entrance by shooting at it in order to gain access to the school.

Also the New CT. School District Superintendent said on NBC this morning that N. Lanza the mother of shooter was not in the school employee database meaning she was not a regular/full-time school employee. She might have been a substitute or part-time teacher or a volunteer at the school.

Ryan Lanza's statements to the police have not become public so I don't know how you Chava61 can say that Ryan stated his brother Adam is mentally ill .

Fact there is no confirmation of Adam Lanza's mental health. No doctors have come forward to confirm what meds he may have been on and if he was under doctors care.

Let me rephrase that. It was reported on NBC, but I agree it is an unconfirmed report.

Some day people are going to understand that most of these shootings are not random. Most of the people who do them are mind controlled. The process is explained pretty well here:

I hear he had Aspergers, how he was a loner, had no friends and seemed like he had no emotions... not sure if that's true...the news here say the cops know why he did it but they can't elaborate because of the ongoing investigation.
