Now that I think about it, I think I reversed the order of the killings. Tate maybe came first, then they did LaBianco because it didn't get Bobby out.

ok, he led a hippy cult in the 60's that killed a few people, and bad that that is, why is there such a lingering infamy?

plenty of people have done far worse yet we hear next to nothing about them.

What makes the Manson case stand out so much?
Never understood it myself. Maybe because the 60s were a "more innocent" time? I don't know, I wasn't alive back then. That's all I can think...so at the time, sure, sensationalism.

But now? He's just some old doddering fool who thinks he's manipulating everyone...well, I guess he is manipulating some sheeple.

Frankly, I wish everyone would forget all about him and let him rot in prison without any acknowledgement. It's what he wants. We should stop giving him any attention at all because he is a nothing.

I know that Manson was really out to get Melcher but I heard that he or one of the girls paid a visit to the property ahead of time and they knew he wasn't in residence any longer. If the record companies had just given him a token contract for a couple of albums the whole scene probably never would have happened. Manson would have been a non-starter and probably he'd have gotten into other things, maybe become a talent agent like the otther psychos.

Actually, I'm just relying on my memory, which is not that reliable!!! So you could be right. I just thought that the murders at the Tate house were the latter ones. Someone should look it up! I posted a Wiki link above, which looks pretty comprehensive.

Manson was said to be an incredible lover with both sexes, gave out LSD, pot, and assorted chemical highs, played music and partied with famous L.A. musicians.

Sex, drugs, rock 'n roll.

You know, I started to type something that referred to the La Biancas and I somehow deleted the post and didn't have time to rewrite it.

Anyway, they were not famous, and they did not deserve the deaths they met--random, terrible murders at the hands of people who had no regard for human life.

How did you know Mr. La Bianca?

He was the owner of a Grocery store and we discussed a possible business transaction. That was on a Mon or Tues AM and he was killed on Wed or Thurs as I recall...has been a while. (I was in the Inventory trade)

The fact it happened in Greater LA and involved a Hollywood star gave it extra publicity. But it was strange enough in other ways. Manson believed him self to be godlike, even his name (Manson = Son of Man?) . The LaBianca murders were originally believed to be unrelated. Mr LaBianca was a heavy gambler and it was believed his gambling debts may have been a factor.
