Just wanted to wish everyone a very Happy, Healthy, Prosperous and Peaceful New Year!

Wouldn't it be great if perhaps for one day there were no new threads posted that were awful, horrible, and sickening.......and instead all of the postings reflected: 'justice served'.

Happy New Year to you too, Sugarmaple.

Don't hold your breathe on the second part. The one good thing to consider is that the reason these awful crimes hit the news is that the vast majority of us are decent human beings and would never commit such crimes.

Sure, maybe some of us might have shoplifted something as a teenager, or smoked some dope, or even spray painted graffiti on a wall. Some people cheat on their taxes, or their spouses... but the majority of us do not run around harming other people, and we can be thankful as a society for that.

Again, Happy New Year to you, too.

Good point, NLVGal. If the kinds of crimes often discussed here were commonplace, they wouldn't be news, so the fact that they do get so much coverage is a good sign in a way.

Even so, the subjects discussed here are often grim, so it's good to take a breather with something positive. Great idea for a thread, Sugar M.! Happy new year to you all!

I just got home from work. I don't want to tell you the day I had. However, Happy New Year's!!!! I just hope the rest of 2013 isn't like today.

Think of it this way: From a day like that -- and I know the kind you mean -- there's no way to go but up.

Cliffie, thank you. I admit to being very bitter, jaded, and cynical. However, posts like these make me TRY and think positive. You are correct. It can only get better and, no matter how bad it was (and it sucked beyond belief), it could be worse.

Again, thank you for putting me in my place and making me think on a more positive note.

Here's an oldie from the eighties that is very positive. It helps when you are having one of those days. It's called "Things can only get better."
