What took so long for this to come to trial ? Isn't almost 5 years a real stretch ? Here in Florida with have the case where Travon Martin was shot and killed and it has only been about a year and the trial starts in June. Was this delay caused by the defense requesting more time to prepare or was it the prosecution ?

Here is a good timeline ... you can scroll down to the arrest July 15, 2008. Be sure and note the August 16, 2011 where she forged letters to herself from Travis ... Juan had them tested. LOL The first attorney Victoria Washington withdrew from the case shortly thereafter ... probably running out the door screaming and leaving a crying Nurmi shouting 'don't leave me!' This crazy Arias wanted to represent herself (August 8, 2011 entry.)

How many hours before the verdict will be in...My guess is 5 hours.

It seems to me, any death penalty case takes a long time, as for Florida, look at the trial for Nubia Barahona, that little girl has been dead for over two years, going on three...and there is still no trial date. That is messed up.

Here is an article that sheds some light on why these cases can take so long. It's specifically talking about North Carolina, but I believe most of the factors are the same in most states. The increasing complexity of forensic evidence means there is more for both sides to review and/or find experts to refute, there are often dozens of witnesses that have to be interviewed, there are court scheduling issues. In JA's case specifically, as CarolinaWoman said, she had lawyers quit, tried to defend herself for awhile then realized she was in over her head. She also changed her entire story in 2011 from "ninjas did it" to self-defense.

Much as I can't stand Nurmi or Willmott, they definitely had their work cut out of them. They interviewed several expert witnesses who wouldn't touch the case, so they finally settled on LaViolette and the other quacks. Then you have a client trying to introduce forged letters as evidence, trying to blackmail her way into a plea deal (though I don't know how much of that was JA vs Nurmi) and who keeps changing her story.

I listened to the whole show...Chris is a good speaker with a lot to say that he couldn't get out in those HLN shows with everyone talking over each other. A couple things that stood out for me: When they went through all Travis's emails, one from Jodi around the time of May 26 said words to the effect of "I'll talk to my lawyer tomorrow." Seems to point in the direction of her telling him about the sex tape, maybe threatening him, and possibly he threatened to sue her. I also was surprised, or maybe not, that Nurmi contacted Sky Hughes at one point and lied to her, telling her that he had letters from Travis confessing to being a pedo and that he had had those letters 100% authenticated. Chris and Sky contacted a friend that works in CSI who told them there was no way to 100% authenticate such letters.

Jodi was a manipulator, stalker and liar long before the murder...and she will never change.

We have to remember ... jury starts deliberating at 9:00 AM ... then a coffee/restroom break at 10 or 10:15 ... back to it after 15 or 20 minutes ... then it's lunch time at noon or shortly after for another hour and half ... so how much time have they deliberated ... oh yes we have the afternoon break too consider. Unless this jury is tired of all the Fridays off and delays they want to get this done ... then there is a chance the verdict may change so there is no 'mini trial' 'penalty phase' which means more time in the courtroom for them. After all the time they have invested I sincerely hope they don't pull an easy out verdict.

For whatever reason the judge has allowed this trial to go on forever with her scheduling.

I've been working and haven't heard or read of a verdict so far. Could that mean this jury is proving they are more inclined to discuss and review evidence than the great crew in the Anthony trial?

I remember general comments from friends about Nurmi's antics-probably why I wasn't surprised of his speeches in court.

I read one brief summary and they said Nurmi used terms most often associated with the adult entertainment or porn industries. ....good summary IMHO.

Documents like that don't exist. Awful that Squirmy did that - - wonder if he was trying to get thrown off the case by lying to TA's friends. Wonder why Squirmy didn't mention a plethysmograph. Maybe he doesn't use them to defend his clients.
