Sad news. He was such a bleak of hope in last year's Olympics. Now his legacy is forever tarnished. Hope her family gets the justice they need.

This shows you the risk of having a firearm in your home. This isn't common, but incidences like this do happen.

This should be a lesson as to why you shouldn't try to sneak in and surprise your partner late at night. Specially when you know they are gun owners and live in a high crime or lawless neighborhood. With this guy being a double amputee, I'm sure his paranoia level is already elevated as he has limited mobility, so I can't say that I blame him.

Put South Africa's high crime rate on top of that as well.

If it turns out that these were the circumstances, I can't see that he would be to blame for anything even if he is the cause.

Agreed. It is dangerous to keep a gun in one's home for this reason.

NBC news reported that Oscar Pistorius lives in a securely controlled neighborhood. I assume that means like a gated community. Having visited South Africa I know that people with financial means there live behind walls, fences and gates because of the high crime level there.

No matter what the exact circumstances are of this incident, it is sad for everyone involved.

On the NBC Today Show they had a reporter from South Africa who said that there have been several incidents of domestic violence in the past where police were called to the home.
