This Cookie Monster needs to be put behind bars for life. Walmart is doing every patriotic American a big favor by prosecuting a dangerous cookie terrorist.

Grocery stores throw thousands of food items on a regular basis. They were not gonna go broke over that. Internal theft happens everywhere, many grocery store employees treat the store inventory like their personal fridge. Please, it's not like was stealing TVs, jewelry or computers. Idiots.

Obviously you didn't read the article or the police report. It specifically states she stole 1-2 items per week, for the past 7 years she has been employed at Walmart. That is what she is admitting too. You can probably gurantee the amount is twice as much as she said. Over that amount time, the loss to the company could have easily topped 50k.
She is getting exactly what she deserves. Yes, just the one bag of cookies? Sure fire her, make her pay it back, end of story. Howver, for this much sustained embezzlement, yes criminal charges are appropriate.
Come up with the wholesale value of the cookies taken. Have the employee pay it back by signed agreement in the presence of the store manager and a representative of the employee's choosing. Yes, the employee may need to be terminated as it is probably over a $1,000 but the bad mark in their employee record with a note that an agreement has been reached for repayment would be better than prosecuting over cookies. The judge might laugh this out of court, who wins then? But, CEO's who falsify expense or pad expense report must be made to pay back their thefts, too with the same punishment.
The one who says it tops 50K is way overboard. Figure the wholesale value of the cookies at $1/bag and even at 4 bags a week amounts to $200 per year or $1400 in 7 years, which I am sure was written off, thus net loss closer to about $700.
I do hate thieves, but this one has strains of Les Miserables playing in the background.
