I forgot to mention Perfect Murder, Perfect Town by Lawrence Schiller. I know there are many other books about the JonBenet case, but this one is meticulously researched and managed to hold my attention for the entire 800+ pages.
Currently I'm reading My Dark Places by James Ellroy, about his mother's murder. I know he's better known for his novels, particularly the Black Dahlia, but I prefer straight nonfiction when it comes to true crime so I don't know if I should bother with that one.

The Black Dahlia is not worth the paper it's printed on compared to My Dark Places...IMHO.
Great thread. True crime books are my favorites. Although not exactly true crime, The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum is based on the true story of the Sylvia Likens murder.
The true-crime version of that story is The Indiana Torture Slaying! by John Dean, later released as House Of Evil.
This may not be a true crime book, but the book written by Matthew Shepherd,'s Mother, 'the meaning of Matthew', is very poignant. I found the whole story very sad. Especially since his death was so relevant to the whole hate crime movement and gay hate crimes. His own Father, did not want the killers of his son to be labeled with a hate crime.

Delivered from Evil and the Darkest Night are two of my favorites. These are by author Ron Francell. He is brilliant.
I Would Find a Girl Walking by Kathy Kelly is another incredible book. The author had extraordinary access to Gerald Stano, a prolific serial killer from the 1970's.
