I can read a lot about true crime cases, but this case is just too much for me. It's not just the brutality of it, but also the idea that it could happen to you. It's like the definition of wrong place, wrong time.

If only we could just be color blind and focus on crime. This is not about race...people who hurt others need to be away from decent society.

What a horrendous crime? It is always shocking to know what some people can do to others. I do agree that this crime is not racially motivated. The perpetrators had friends and relationships with white and black people. The victims were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. These awful crimes are committed by both black and white people. Alot of the dysfunction starts in childhood. If we really want safer societies we need to focus more on child abuse and violence in families.

At least these cases ARE being retried and not thrown out of court. There is still a chance at justice for the families, although I completely agree it is also torture for them. It's still probably a drop in the bucket compared to the torment of losing their kids that way.

The judge denied new trials to Lemaricus Davidson and his step-brother, Letalvis Cobbins. Davidson is on death row for his role in the murders. Cobbins is serving a life sentence.

A fifth defendant, Eric Boyd, is serving an 18-year federal prison sentence for his role in the carjacking.

Vanessa Coleman was granted a new trial as the judge who first heard the case, admitted to prescription drug abuse while on the bench. He had sentenced Coleman to 53 years. On Feb 1, 2013 the new trial concluded for Coleman and she was sentenced to 35 consecutive years less time served of six years and will be eligible for parole in four and a half years! In April 2013, Coleman appealed and requested another (3rd) trial. The request was denied.

George Thomas had a new trial in May 2013. He was formerly sentenced to life without parole. The new jury found him guilty of all charges but the judge sentenced him to life with possibility of parole. Deducting the six years he has served he will be eligible for parole in 51 years.

It will never be over for the two families but at least they won't have to sit through any more trials.

RIP Channon & Chris
