A man who is attracted to 16 or 17 year old girls isn't a pedophile. Pedophiles are attracted to children who have not reached puberty yet. People need to learn the difference!
That said, I find it very difficult to feel sorry for the 41 year old man.

I do think it's wrong that he was preying on teenage girls but calling him a pedophile is inaccurate. He got what he deserved in the end, didn't he?
It would be inaccurate to call him a pedophile, but certainly accurate to say he is an ephebophile. His behavior is not psychopathic, but arguably sociopathic. I would not want to associate with him, and I'd be rooting for his wife in Divorce Court.

Calling him a pedophile is part of what he deserves. A lot of words have a technical definition but then they can also be used as an insult apart from that strict definition. You can make the case that such usage diminishes the word itself, but what I believe is most important in this case is to diminish the scum bag.

He isn't a pedophile. Stop conflating true perversion, where adults are attracted to pre-pubescent children, with plan poor judgement and mild creepiness. I've seen 16 year olds with D cups and bikini waxes. That is a different planet than being turned on by childish bodies.

As mentioned many times on this thread, the local age of consent was 16, which is why finding an 18 year old was unnecessary and no he was not breaking the law.
