A Dallas woman has been formally charged in a child's drowning death after police say she was distracted by social media.
37-year-old Kariasa Thomas was babysitting four children ages 7,5, 6, 3 and a dog at a Dallas apartment complex pool, including Kanyce. Thomas also brought her 16-year-old daughter and husband, who is legally blind.
Thomas told detectives that instead of monitoring the children, she sat at the pool and logged on to Facebook on her phone. She said she scrolled the social media website for about 15 minutes. Thomas also told investigators that she played with her dog during the incident.
Investigators said that Thomas knew that Kanyce could not swim, but allowed her to play in the pool,
instructing her to stand on the steps leading into the pool as the others swam.
After being at the pool for some time, an off-duty officer who lives at the apartment complex told the visitors that the pool was closed. As Thomas began to round up the children, she noticed Kanyce was missing. Thomas found the child after she walked into the pool and kicked her lifeless body.

There is so many things wrong, I hope the judge locks her up for second degree murder or something very severe.
So many things added fuel for this tragedy to happen. Four children is way to many children to take to babysit at a pool. They went to the apartment pool after it closed and it getting dark.
She allowed a kid that couldn't swim play by edge of a pool. She played with the dog so she definitely not looking at kids then and was on Facebook of her phone for 15 minutes.
Kids in that age range are never in the same spot for that length of time.
