The FBI has opened an investigation "to determine if Mr. Thomas' civil rights were violated during the altercation with Fullerton police officers. With the conclusion of the state court trial, FBI investigators will examine the evidence and testimony to determine if further investigation is warranted at the federal level."
I hope the Feds will serve up justice for Kelly Thomas. Cicinelli is trying to get his job back but the Chief of Police doesn't want him back.
I pray to G-d and everything that is holy that either the Feds find them guilty and they get federal time in Gen Pop with EVERYONE knowing they were cops, or someone with a grudge against bullies gives them the punishment they deserve.
Sick sick sick, I'm really speechless after this, and literally sick to my stomach.
Not to mention I wanna beat the CRAP out of each and every one of those jurors. They are JUST as guilty as the cops by letting this injustice go unpunished and a poor man be killed for no reason at all.
For some reason it's just rare for jurors to find police guilty of abuse, even when it is so clear and obvious like this case. Many times the accused police fall back on the "Nazi war crimes" defense - saying that they were simply following proper documented police procedures and training that call for beating citizens to a pulp. They are often correct - that's how they are trained, and the juror conclusion is usually to conclude "yeah, this is terrible, but the cop was doing his job as he was instructed". A sea change is obviously needed in police training and documented procedures to identify the mentally ill and conflict resolution. That includes changing standard processes that have existed for decades. But the industry of law enforcement is slow to change, it's a blue collar job at it's core, and it's not managed or staffed by the brightest bunch. Until that happens, bad cops will continue to fall back on that defense and acquittals will continue.
Not surprisingly a lot of cops think these thugs did nothing wrong. More innocent Americans were killed by cops in 2013 than were American servicemen and women killed in Afghanistan in 4 years!
Personally I think the Thomas case demonstrates the need for reform in the US in terms of both police accountability and also in respect of how the mentally ill are treated in the US.
In terms of accountability, it's about time the US made police accountable to an Independent Body and not just subject to internal investigations, although in this case the fact that the Courts backed the officers seems beyond belief.
Secondly the lack of psychiatric services and beds in many parts of the US is scandalous, even when compared to other nations. Sadly this lack of resources leads many people like Thomas in to confrontation with Law Enforcement, when what they really need is treatment and emergency psychiatric beds and support for those with psychiatric conditions in order to try to prevent such individuals ending up in the Criminal Justice System or Prison in the first place.
As for the police who carried out this brutal beating they would be in jail in most civilised countries.

While Harrier cringes at your implied claim that the U.S. is uncivilized, he certainly does believe that these cops should be in prison.
