Oh my - I'm saddened by this news. She was quite a woman.

I didn't even hear she had died until I was perusing this forum! I had no idea she was 83 either, she seemed much younger to me.

I recently re-read Small Sacrifices which was very well written. I really never re-read true crime books, but I read that and Fatal Vision by Joe McGinnis who also recently died. These 2 books are in my top 5 of True Crime books. I know Diane Downs hated her after the book was published.

I haven't read the Ted Bundy book and will look for that next.

RIP Ann

Wow! I just learned that Ann has passed and I feel like an old friend is gone. I have read, and own, most of her books and her ''Crime Files'' books as well. Nobody told a true crime story like she did. She is my favorite true crime writer.
I also read with a sad heart that her 2 sons exploited her financially after she fell and was hospitalized in 2013. Evidently she began to decline and they took advantage of her vulnerability. So sad, so wrong.
RIP, Ann, knowing that so many of us love you and are grateful for the many hours of reading pleasure that you brought, and will continue to bring, into our lives.

I lived close to her and I sent her an email and she wrote back. I can't remember if this was before Ridgway was caught.
I saw her at a lecture not too long ago in Portland and I thought she might be losing it. She was rambling quietly sometimes.

Does anyone but me remember the showdown Ann Rule had with Diane Down on Oprah? It was a riot. Almost as hard to turn away from as Geraldo going head to head with Charlie Manson.
