Good grief! A fact never struck me quite as vividly as it did just now while looking at this latest murder count. That fact is that Chicago may lead in the actual count of murders but if you extrapolate out the number of murders in much, much smaller Baltimore & Memphis so far this year, they have a MUCH higher murder rate than does Chicago. It's not even close!

One good aspect for Chicago at least is that it's trending in the right direction. It's had 6 murders in the past 8 days as the weather has actually been quite warm in the 60's to 80's. That after a January and February that many times averaged over 2 murders a day. Hopefully the trend back to (what was already a sad) "normal" is on the way after about 4 months of a surge in violence.
Atlanta just had a double-murder so it is at 31 or higher now. This time last year was still at 22.
