I've been called 5 times, and released 5 times. I would really like to service on a jury as I have appeared as a witness a few times. I would like to see the process from a different perspective. But I suspect my medical laboratory, pharmaceutical, and clinical experience has something to do with being released. Most cases these days involve some sort of scientific evidence, so....

I sat on a jury for a drunk driving case over 15 years ago.
I'm due to report at 9 am tomorrow for jury duty. I don't mind missing a day of work but I sure hope I get excused.

Sitting here in my truck waiting to go into jury assembly room a woman parks in front of me and opens her car door slamming it into the car next to her. Gets out and scratches paint off with her finger nail.

Gonna be a fun day!

Pretty uneventful day listening to a criminal defense attorney and a prosecutor from the DA run through group after group till they had a jury and one alternate. We started with at least 60 people and went through all but about 15 who were never called. All of that for a woman facing 3 counts of vandalism...ugh. Luckily I was never called!

No kidding. I would not share a hotel room with a stranger. If they want to sequester us they can pay for each of us to have our own rooms. They would have to hold me in contempt and put me in jail to force me to share a room.

Here's "the rest of the story" about that day:

The jury deliberation room was windowless, with a big table in the middle, and a small table in the corner with an operating fan on it. I was sitting at one corner of the big table, with the other 13 jurors sitting around it. After about an hour, I caught what to me was the unmistakable smell of lacquer thinner. Since the room was windowless, I thought that perhaps some maintenance guy was using lacquer thinner in a place where it was being drawn into the ventilation system. I looked around and didn't see anybody making "sniffing" expressions or taking any notice of the smell. After a little while, I couldn't stand it and asked, "Does anybody else smell lacquer thinner?" At that, the other thirteen jurors cracked up, because the source of the smell was the girl sitting at the opposite corner of the table from me, who was applying fingernail polish, with her hands below the level of the table where I couldn't see them. After the laughter died down, a guy sitting across from me said (accurately), "You're NOT married, are you?"

I had to do it three times, but I didn't have to go two of those times because it was canceled. However, I didn't have to serve on the jury the one time I did go.

I was one one a few years ago. It was a civil case about some investor who thought some Developer scammed him. I was an alternate but ended up sitting through the whole thing. The court clerk or someone called me up after the verdict asking if I wanted to know. They all ruled the same way I would have. I would totally do another one but only if it was a criminal case.
