I guess we just have very different viewpoints, Priscilla. Carolyn stood behind her husband and did what she could to defend him. I respect her for that. 60 years later, she admitted to lying on the stand, and she did so with a great deal of contrition and regret, all the while knowing that she could still be charged with perjury.
But let's not be disingenuous by continually referring to Till as a "child". He was a teenager, the size of a small adult man, considerably larger than Ms. Bryant. And his behavior that day was certainly not indicative of a childish mind.

Yes actually, they were often chosen at random. And even if they committed a crime, lynching is not the way to handle it, that's mob justice. We have a court system in the USA where you get a trial by a jury of your peers. Ever heard of it?

Yes, some lynching victims were white. But it's not okay to lynch. Would you want to be lynched because someone suspected you committed a crime? Or if a rumor went around that you raped someone? No. You would want a trial by jury, not to be lynched. Our legal system is based on having a trial by jury, not vigilante mob justice.
