ST. POELTEN, Austria — A man accused of imprisoning his daughter for nearly a quarter of a century and fathering her seven children repeatedly raped her in front of the youngsters, prosecutors said Monday as his trial opened in Austria.

Josef Fritzl hid his face behind a blue file folder as a judge began the proceedings under heavy security in St. Poelten, 40 miles west of Vienna.

From the link: "Police say the 73-year-old has confessed to holding his daughter for 24 years in a cell he built beneath his home."

"If convicted of enslavement, Fritzl could face up to 20 years behind bars."

Seems a bit unfair to me. Of course, he probably wouldn't last 20 years anyway.

The Fritzl case emerged in April 2008 when a woman named Elisabeth Fritzl (born 6 April 1966) told police in the town of Amstetten, Austria, that she had been held captive for 24 years behind eight locked doors in a concealed corridor part of the basement area of the large family house by her father,

I read the coolest thing. That Elisabeth Fritzl changed her name and she with her children live in an undisclosed location and she is able to live a normal life. I would love this to be the same thing for the Turpin children someday.
