you only have to pay the standard title transfer fee when you register the car in your name. you will have to have the car inspected though, and the DMV will run an ncic check on the vin number. if the car is a 67 or newer, then you will also have to have it emission inspected as well.

In Arizona, when a person buys a car from another private person, you do not have to pay sales tax. That is not the case in all States, though. Here in FL, where I moved to from AZ, you still have to pay sales tax based on the purchase price.

But rbohm, posting above, is correct on the inspection and emissions. (no emissions in FL though)

fieldchi888, my advice to you is...before buying this car, you should have the seller accompany you to MVD and emissions to make sure it will pass before you pay for it. If it doesn't pass, you will own a car you cannot register and will own a lot of problems along with that.

So far, Fieldchi . . . you have received excellent advice.

No Sales Tax required if purchased from a Private Seller. A relatively basic inspection is required at the local MVD. Depending on model year, Emission Test may be necessary.

Finally . . . the cost of either a one or two year registration will be based on the value of the vehicle based on the MVD's calculations.

Good Luck
