Default Young "professional" moving to Tucson from Illinois

Well I thought I was moving to phoenix, but got a better offer from a company in Tucson.

I'll be working near E 22nd St. and S Kolb Rd.
I have a bunch of family up north of Cortaro Farms Rd.

I have a place to stay up on the north side, but I know that commute is going to get old fast. I was thinking of looking around the downtown/university are as that is kind of half way between the two, and would offer some centralized social activities.

Are there any other areas between my work and family that would be good? I'm not in looking for the crazy college bars and that scene, but someplace that has some nearby nightlife (sports bars and other "dive bar" sort of atmosphere would be good) would be good.

The area around River & Campbell may be a good fit for you. It's close enough also to "dive" bars, but you still live in a nice and safe area.

If you want to experience a real Tucson dive bar, head to the Buffet one night and you'll never want to go to a dive bar in Tucson again. There are some hardcore dive bars in Tucson.
I like the Campbell/River idea. I live near there now. Very nice area. It's not ideal on nightlife but could be a lot worse. Lots to walk to. Not an easy drive to 22nd/Kolb though, but nothing really is.

Oh, I didn't notice that. No, it's not an easy drive. In that case I'd suggest living around Wilmot & Broadway or Speedway or farther East, but he mentioned he wanted to be around downtown & U of A, so I figured River & Campbell was a good idea.

Thanks for the tips, work is providing help with finding a place, but this will help me narrow it down.

Socially Tucson sucks almost as bad as the weather. This place is filled with college students, marrieds with children or the elderly, nothing in between. Good luck finding any bars you'd want to go to unless you want to pick up college students.

What else are you looking for? A larger gay population?

Haha!
Sucks as bad as the weather? I thought people moved to Tucson FOR the warm weather.

And you are saying that the place is filled with 18-21 year old girls who probably tan and work out a lot so they can show their bods off at the pool? That sounds absolutely horrible.
