It really does move good with all the ramps closed. BUT! Whenever there's an accident on those two lanes, the whole highway shuts down until they can get it cleared. And since all the ramps are closed, you're stuck there. It happens once or twice a week and they have tow trucks always ready when there's a problem so they get it cleared as fast as they can.

Just be sure you stay away from those "leaping" cholla cactus. Nabbed me twice on the foot - and I'm SURE I didn't get close enough to actually touch those suckers. I sure found out why they are called "leaping".

Seriously though I'm type 2 diabetic too and know exactly what you mean. I make it a habit to never pass up a rest stop - you never know if the next one may be out of order.
