Regarding Oro Valley, does anyone know if it is a nice area? If so, is there one part of it that may be more preferable than another. I was esp. wondering about Sun City Vittosa (spelling?) within it - I think it's a 55 and older community. Also, how far of a drive - rush hour or no rush hour - might it be to the actual city of Tucson?

There really aren't any "bad" parts of Oro Valley b/c it's a master-planned community, so they have been really careful about what goes in. There are parts which are less expensive and more "cookie cutter" and there are parts which are a lot more expensive and not (homes in Stone Canyon, for example, can go for up to $4Million). The upside is that everything is clean, and it's virtually crime-free. The downside is that it is pretty devoid of character, very "vanilla" and almost exclusively white.

We lived there for 2+ years and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about it.

I don't know a lot about Sun City. I've driven by it a million times. Looks fine, but I don't have any first-hand experience with it. It's certainly safe and all that. Driving downtown depends on traffic, but it takes a while no matter what b/c you hit a lot of lights on the way down.

We are closing on our home in Saddlebrook in a few weeks. We spent a lot of time and years looking. We've talked to many people and there are as many people with good reasons as there are people with other views. Prices vary a lot, it comes down to amnenties and what you want. We liked saddlebrook over sun city vist. as the people seem "younger" and more active. Personally living in Minn, anyplace where I dont have to shovel snow and stay inside or take up ice fishing is a good thing.

My parents have lived in their home in Sun City Vistoso since 1991. They love it there. Sun City has their own Golf course and 2 pools. There is a craft center for ceramic making, jewelry making and other crafts. The crafters can sell their makings in the gift shop on the premises (for a small commission going to the store ) The Oro Valley Police have a sub-station in the community, and volunteer seniors patrol the area at night, calling in suspicious goings on to the police. They have a lot of different activities going on.. a choir, square dancing, hiking club, RV club... and more.
They have their own golf shop and grille (hamburgers, sandwiches, etc)
If you want to know evn more about the community, the main number is
520-825-3711.

I've lived in Oro Valley for 3 years now, and have the same impression of the area as Maimoumakande does.

Rancho Vistoso is also a nice neighborhood/housing development to live in in Oro Valley.

Downtown Tucson is usually about 30 minutes away from Oro Valley.

Sounds like MaimounaKanda knows Ora Valley very well.

Missed points . . . SHOPPING and DINING. Greatly improved over the last few years and getting better.
