Sorry, gotta disagree again, James
I relocated to Tucson from Contra Costa County back in the late 90's and definitely find the weather here better overall. Also, I have spent lots of time in Fresno and Lancaster and, once again, prefer the weather in Tucson.
Thankfully, comparing Tucson with Phoenix and Palm Springs is impossible because there is no comparison.

Welcome! My family and I moved here from Ohio almost 10yrs ago. I love it here. Like someone else said no place in perfect. I think you will have a great start since you can afford to completely pay for your home. Maybe call the Visitors Bureau and get a newcommer packet. That will give you a general idea of what Tucson is like. I wish you the best. Oh and the drive out here is long but it was really fun for me especially when the terrain started completely changing from what I had ever seen in my life. We were moving with two young children so it was more of a challenge. But we made it and I would never leave unless a better job opportunity came up. It would have to be pretty good for us to leave. Again good luck!!

I love Tucson, even though I'm no longer living there. Here's a view from my former backyard, and a sunset for you to look forward to. Good luck on your move.

KarlaT2, just curious. Where are you living now? I can't believe you would leave such a beautiful place. Is there someplace better than Tucson?

Well, if watching sunsets is enough for you, even I can vouch that Tucson's sunsets are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen, if not THE most. Same goes for the sky in general - the bluest and the prettiest. I hope you do realize, though, that not every property has these views. While some claim that money can't buy happiness , it certainly can rent a lot of pleasures for the eyes.

You won't fall flat on your face-you have ambition and you've done more homework than a lot of reallocators.

We moved to So. Cal for job reasons. I'm actually in La Quinta (Palm Springs area) which is also desert with beautiful mountains, but I liked Tucson better.
You can't touch the sunsets, at least anywhere I've been. As for the view, true not all houses would have that, but that same view is free anywhere up in Oro Valley. The Home Depot parking lot at Oracle and Tangerine has one of the best views IMO. LOL. We used to sit in the car after we were done just looking at it.
Anyway, I'm hoping to get back to AZ (may have to be Phoenix) sometime too. Good luck to you.

Thanks for letting us know. Gotta add it to Tucson's sightseeing list. Joke aside, I've never been to Oro Valley. Was invited to a party once and didn't go... shoot!
I like Palm Springs' main drag. Wish we had something like this. Only University St. on campus resembles it a little bit, but it's so short. Remember getting off the freeway and driving for miles in the middle of nowhere (that could've changed; it was many years ago)... was almost about to turn around and then... Palm Springs showed up. Very cute town, as far as desert goes. I'm an ocean/sea/river/any body of water fan.

Good luck, but driving in snow is no big deal AT ALL in the age of front-wheel-drive..(And AWD...)
