Am in Tucson currently, staying with family. Might relocate here permanently; would like to find a corporate chef job (with a large company or university; not looking to work on the line anymore!). Have 15+ years experience working as a chef in the Bay Area.

Any advice/recommendations solicited and welcomed!

Check out the resorts in the foothills area??

Can I ask why you would move here over the Bay area?

Have you looked at UA's job postings? They have quite a food service setup. They have a number of on-campus restaurants (real restaurants, not student cafeterias) and they do a lot of catering for events, since you're required to use them in most cases on campus.

Thanks to you both for these ideas.

@Rob - am recently divorced and am settling, for now, with family here in Tucson.

There really aren't a ton of corporate jobs of any kind in Tucson. The big corporations go to Phoenix where, if for no other reasons, there are more potential employees and an airport with direct flights to most major cities.

The ideas about U of A and resorts are good, although keep in mind many of the resorts have been cutting back in recent years (a couple are even in chapter 11). I would also suggest assisted living facilities. Some of them, e.g., Splendido in Rancho Vistoso and La Posada in Green Valley are really luxury establishments with multiple food service locations.

Others are not quite so livestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous but are upscale and have employment opportunities. Check out:

and The Fountains at La Cholla is one of Tucson's best loved retirement communities, providing Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory / Alzheimer's care on a lovely campus in the Tucson foothills. Close to Foothills Mall, Northwest Medical Center

Good luck on finding a high paying chef's job in Tucson . . . most of the Moderator cut: inappropriate language here will advertise jobs for ass't chef or sous-chef when in actuality it's for a chef's position. Why do they do this? So you'll do the chef's job at an assistant's pay scale and yes, it's usually hourly. Oh, did I forget to mention that you're supposed to do 60 hours worth of work for under 40 hours?
