^^^

I owned a 1500 square foot home in IL and purchased a 975 square foot townhouse in AZ FURNISHED. I dumped a good deal of furniture in IL before the move. Midwestern furniture does not look all that great in the Southwest. I MOVED NO televisions, NO appliances, and few bulky items. I had a few antique items that I moved because my wife insisted.

I moved 9,000# of household 1685 miles. Approximately $1,200 of the amount I noted could be attributes to storage in Chicago for 30 days.

Remember that moving costs are based on THREE factors:

1) Weight of the shipment.
2) Distance shipped.
3) Packing and handling costs. These can be reduced if you are willing to pack up some of your own goods. Do realize that ANY box YOU pack is NOT covered for damage by the moving company. We packed books, clothes and other items that were NOT fragile.

In all fairness, I must admit that we made the move in July 2014 when the cost of gas & diesel was $3.50/ gallon. Now it is about half that.

I see. Yeah, we had a rep do inventory today and he said that right now is cheaper than moving during the summer. Price of gas has to be a factor as well.

We have no appliances, only the TVs, and 2 tables with glass tops.

We will pack most of the stuff, mainly clothes and toys.

Thanks for your input J!
