We thought long and hard about where to retire and decided that everything that we wanted is right here in Green Valley. It is a pristine town and when we considered other places nothing came close. We did want to downsize though, so we are building a new house, also in Green Valley. Our present house is for sale and I am adding the description. Green Valley has a population of about 23,000. It is unincorporated so that keeps the property taxes low. The town has 12 recreation centers with the 13th being built. Swimming pools and hobby clubs for just about anything that you can imagine. The rec fee is mandatory and it is under $400 per year. This allows you to use any of the rec centers. The new rec center will have an indoor/outdoor pool. The rest are outdoor. This town is unique because there is no bad area of town, it is all beautiful with most houses having a mountain view. We have medical centers. We are 30 minutes from Tucson and 15 minutes from a casino.

House built in 2003 with $100,000 in upgrades. 1778 sq ft. 2 BR and two baths. Tile roof. Exterior stucco repainted in 2006. Interior floors are all tiled. Whole house vacuum. In-wall, flush mounted 7.1 surround sound system with $1500 receiver. Professionally landscaped yard with two miniature fruit trees: grapefruit and mandarin Orange. Automatic yard irrigation system. Water softener. Professionally upgraded window treatments with matching wall mounted headboard in master bedroom. Walk-in closet with mirrored doors. French doors with between-glass mini blinds in great room and master bedroom. Double French front entrance door. Three large Bay Windows. Granite kitchen counter tops. Double roll-out shelves in kitchen cabinets. Three pendant lights in kitchen as well as can lights which are all on dimmer switches. 4 multi-speed ceiling fans. All windows professionally tinted with 3-M product. Natural gas, direct vent bee-hive fireplace. 2-1/2 car extended garage with epoxy floor. Den off of the great room. Hobby/computer room with added large storage closet and included wall mounted TV. Large Jetted bath tub in master bath. Natural gas for patio barbeque…with Weber Barbeque. Extended rear patio. Front sitting wall. Mountain views from front and rear. Natural desert behind house makes patio very private because no one can ever build there. 3 bay windows. All stainless steel kitchen appliances are included, also washer and dryer. No obstruction from kitchen to dinette to large great room and den. House is in a newer, gated section of town. The town has 12 community recreation centers with pools, 13th center is being built. Free one-year house warranty. Long Realty has the house listed for $358,800. All offers considered. Call Cha Cha at Long Realty:
(520) 591-4982

Ps: We are building a house and it will be finished around late June or early July. We will move as soon as you want or we would do a lease-back (paying you rent) and live in the house until ours is built.

Smile Need More Info On Green Valley

My husband and I are seriously looking at New Mexico or Arizona for retirement. We keep narrowing down cities and keep coming up with Green Valley. We do have a few major concerns with this area, mainly being the long term availability of enough water with all the major building going on and the safety of taking walks in the desert. My husband wants to get involved with bird hunting again and I don't want him to end up being shot at! Would really like to know why you chose to stay in Green Valley over the other areas you had visited in New Mexico. We really thought we would settle in Ruidoso, but after visiting there last summer seemed a bit too congested. Thanks for any more info regarding Green Valley.

As you can see in my most recent post, we realized that we really do have everything we need right here in Green Valley. We have lived here for 21 years. Our only thought about moving was to find an area with cooler summers, but it seems that we would be giving up more than we would gain. We have never had anyone attacked or shot at in Green Valley that was connected with illegal immigration. We are aware of incidents that have taken place in the desert outside of town. There are times when illegals have been robbed at gun point in the desert. There is a hiking club here and some members have said that they feel safer hiking in a group than alone. We were hiking with our dog in Madera Canyon and confronted by a bear. The bear stood straight up and stared at us. We stood still and the bear left the area after about a minute, only because another couple appeared on the trail. My wife has vowed never to hike alone again. Everything considered, Green Valley is a safe place to live. You have to visit and see if it is right for you.

There are towns in Northern Arizona that people seem to like and they have cooler summers, but everything has trade-offs. We have decided to stay right here.

One poster mentioned the medical centers in Green Valley... true, but the closest hospital is approximately 30 miles away. Green Valley is still unincorporated area, so it is governed by the Pima County sheriff's department. One poster mentioned being concerned about the water situation... here is a web site for Pima County. It addresses a water issue in Green Valley, and also contains very helpful insight to the happenings in the county (present and future)
Wherever you decide to move, enjoy!
