Yes, I don't have much in the way of views at this time, but the place is well kept and the area is reasonably safe. When I say reasonably safe, it means I do worry a little about my car being parked in a carport outside of the gates, but car theft can happen anywhere even if you do have a garage at home. Never had any reason to worry about my personal safety.

What I'm trying to say is that rent and house prices around here (East) are not higher (or at least not much higher) than in the nasty areas discussed in this thread. Why people choose to be there is beyond me. The only ones I can sort of relate to are the students. If you have no transportation, you have to live not too far from the U. The other reason that comes to mind is that the landlords and apartment complexes in these areas are kinda lax, meaning some rent on month-to-month basis and don't run credit reports. It's a win-win situation - they get to rent nasty places and people with no other choices for variety of reasons find a place to live. That's why they attract certain clientele. As far as the owners living there, they must really like it... I'd rather rent a decent place for the rest of my life as opposed to own any of the houses shown here. It's definitely a two-income world and if I can't buy anything acceptable on one income, I'd rather rent.
I agree. You can definitely score a bargain on renting in this town, and as high as home prices are, it's probably still the most affordable major market in the Southwest.
If you want to live in the hills, it's definitely nice, but you have to pay for it. That's probably the best part of town, but you can live close in very nice areas for very little rent. There are nice areas all over the city and there are some that aren't, like those in the vids. I prefer different areas of town for different reasons. For instance: I own a house in a nice quiet neighborhood on the South Side(looks nothing like those vids) and I like it because I get a lot of house for a little money and the area is really nice. I rented on the far north side before living here, and the only thing I really miss is the scenery and the architecture. Sounds crazy, but just seeing that everyday made me happy too, much like having a nice house and neighborhood now makes me happy.
Daniel, I have no problem with your portrayal of those hoods, in reality they do exist. OF course I'm sure you know every city has these areas including Phoenix, so if you are trying to make a statement it's a mute point.
When I first moved here from a much greener place, it took me a while to start appreciating the beauty here. Now, I see it in so many places. When I go back to where I'm from for a visit, I really can't wait to be back here. There's something about it.

Oh, you're not alone. A friend of mine used to live around Swan & Sunrise and then moved to a bigger house in another part of town. Still misses it. I love driving in this area, too. Don't necessarily wanna live there as I'm just not used to it, but it's definitely so pretty.

Looks like this thread needs to be bumped up since its twin brother is up - they were running together at the time.

Completely agree with your entire post, Sierra. I especially agree with:

I'm in the same boat. Can't afford a house right now, but have a great apartment (except mine has beautiful views, across the street from Pusch Ridge).

Thanks for the great pics SierraAZ....anyone can see that Tucson is far from being a dump.... actually I think it's one of the most beautiful cities that I have ever seen.....combine that with the weather...I can't think of another place in this country that can compare....
